The unions did not design the car, they just put the parts together. The engineers designed those junkers and they were non union up till about 2004 I believe.

Yup, it was the Detroit unions that came up with the Pacer/Pinto/Hornet/Gremlin etc., and built products that got 12 mpg when gas prices doubled. Those were highly reliable products, too, as they had one third the warranty of those (union made) imports.
REALLY? On this planet it goes more like this. Some greedy CEO wants to use brand recognition to put a sub par cheap product out on the market and increase his short term sales numbers.

He calls in the engineers to design this stinky POS. The engineers design it, the union guys build it. The company suffers because the customer soon figures out what a rotten POS the product really is. The company takes a huge hit the CEO is handed a "Production" bonus because sales were up briefly in the first quarter. The CEO and the boards then claim they are being bled dry by the unions because sales are down and ask for concessions.

That's a lot closer to the truth.

Pay attention folks, you don't see this very often. Is there some sort of weird full moon out or something?
Aint that something?

Next thing you know, the French will be attacking Libya!

No, this CEO would have still outsourced it because that's what he's been told is good for business. As a result, he would still be Foxtrot Uniform.

I think you missed the subtle irony in slowplay's original post. He knows it wasn't the workers fault, it was bad management. You both are saying the same thing.

that's not a 79-anything, Look at the brow windows. that's a 737 with a round engine cowl. Look at that old wing design. the 797 will have a supercritical wing form, longer wings and swept back winglets,a wider cockpit like the 757 and far larger windows raked farther backwards for better aerodynamics. I'll bet something like the bombardier challenger.

Unfortunately the result is the same, Lousy leadership? Blame the Unions!
Lousy Design? Blame the Unions! Bad marketing?? again, Blame the Unions.
But! Lousy economy? Blame the Unions! Let the product have all the same in success?? It's wonderful MANAGEMENT!! Isn't that more how it goes ?? I see dimwits here and on many other boards always talking about Union goys making "too much" well why not ask those Air France Pilots or American Airlines pilots who had to fly after their airlines lost airplanes and SEE if they thought that too much Money was the problem?? Because I NEVER thought any pilot who flew ME where I was going safely ever made TOO MUCH money. When I land in the same comfort I took OFF in? God bless them! They couldn't make ENOUGH to suit me! Excellence SHOULD be paid a premium!
