Default Alaska Scope

What is Alaska's current scope, if any? I was under the impression they do not have any... and if so, why not at least 100 seats or something? Seems pretty important these days...

That is the next card that management will play. They will try and play the AS pilot group against the QX pilot group. To see who will do it for cheaper. In a few years there will be a huge gap 76 seats Q400 and 157 seats 738. There must be a filler and who ever does it for cheaper will get the 20 -25 100 seat planes.
Personally, I see that if anyone other than AS or QX doing the 100 seat flying both pilot groups will walk off the job. Now the issue that we have here is that in QX new contract (the pay is arbitrated) The base rate for the 77-95 is 70 seaters rate + 10% and for 96 seats -127 seats is another +5% on top of that. The top RJ pay rioght now is 121 per hour we will say that stays the same then add 10% now we are at $133 per hr for 77-95 seats, then they want 100 seater that is another 5% that then makes if $139 per hour. I think those rates will be weak compared to what AS could do. The FO rates will be horrible. Topped out around $65 per hour. That is just shameful.
Now my discloser: I am a QX pilot and fully believe/want/hope that anything bigger than 70 seat jets should be flown at AS. I'd say 50seats but that is too late. I fully do hope that AS gets the flying but I wouldn't be surprised if the QX got the planes do to the lower cost struture. sad but true.

Dude, you're totally missing the gorilla in the room named SKYWEST! That door is open and will never shut until AS gets a stronger scope clause. QX will not fly jets for the air group anymore, BA stated it plain as day.

Here it is (sorry for the formatting problems). As you can see, there is NO mention of seat/size limits.

Rights and Equity of Pilots...

All Flying: All flying as set forth in Section 2 [Flight Pay], now or hereafter conducted by, or which hereafter becomes available to the Company (including utilization of aircraft under the operational control of the Company) shall, if flown by the Company, continue to be performed by pilots on the Alaska Airlines Pilot System Seniority List. This paragraph [1.B.1.] places a mutual obligation on the Company and the Pilots.

Operating Certificates: Nothing contained in this Agreement shall limit or restrict the Company in any way from applying for new certificates, / / from abandoning certificates, or / / from fully and completely transferring certificates to others. In the event of the abandonment or the full and complete transfer of such certificates or portions thereof, this Agreement shall not thereafter apply to routes or services formerly covered by such abandoned certificates or by such certificates fully and effectively transferred, unless the Company retains an interest in the routes or services covered by such abandoned or transferred certificates as a result of an arrangement or agreement to which the Company is a party.

Part 121 Operations: The Company will not engage in any additional FAR Part 121 operations unless all flying is performed exclusively by pilots whose names appear on the Alaska Airlines Pilot System Seniority List in accordance with the then effective Agreement with the Association, except to the extent that such requirement has been or is waived by any other agreement between the parties.

I wish I had your confidence. Here at AS, nobody seems to care that SW is flying eskimos. Ironically, it is ex-sky west guys that seem to be sounding the alarm loudest.

The dynamic here (AS) will change going forward as the "I got mine so screw you" types finally retire and are replaced by the remainder of our furloughed folks (with looooong memories) and newhires who will all have felt the effects of stagnation at their previous carriers.

Thrill,

I hope you're right. But, I don't share your optimism. We'll just have a new generation of "I got mine" type line-holders who will continue to screw the junior guys. Just look at all the mid seniority guys now in both seats picking up VSA and Premium trips.

B6 guys get:
147+hr for CA/90+FO on a 100 seat airplane. So 133/hr for a 18 yr CA is still little low

I completely agree. The majority of my AS friends seem to have focused on the shiny diversion of Ipads and the prospect of some 900ERs & additional 800 deliveries(which could be easily offset by parking 400s & disposing of 700s quicker).

I hope so too.

The OO CPA has been masterfully sold as harmless: 5 airplanes doing some routes we couldn't stay in otherwise as we achieve single fleet efficiency at AS & QX. My prediction: once the OO CPA has a few months of good operational #s, the deal will be expanded to say 10 CR700s and maybe 5 CR900s. A year later, it'll be 10 CR700s and 10 CR900s and maybe even a few 100 seaters. It'll grow from there as AS gets out of the 737-700. And so on and so on.

I hate to be so pessimistic but the writing is on the wall and it is time for AS pilots to realize what the Air Group is about to do to them... not that it can be stopped.

I just hope all our pilots are putting away a few hundred dollars each month to build up their 6+ month reserve... if they are not there already. I've got my 6 months and am working on making it a 12-month reserve. We have to make it easy for ourselves to walk if it has to come to that.
