Airtran Beats Out Hawaiian as Highest Quality Airline

An annual airline quality study shows that the industry overall is improving despite higher prices, though some of its top winners from last year slipped in 2010.
Of the 16 carriers rated in both 2009 and 2010, nine carriers improved and seven declined in Airline Quality Rating scores. Atlantic Southeast had the largest improvement in overall score, while Frontier and Hawaiian (: 5.88, -0.15, -2.49%) posted big declines.
Airtran, which will soon be purchased by Southwest Airlines(: 12.46, -0.21, -1.66%), scored the highest in the study, beating out last year’s winner Hawaiian, which slipped to second place.
Rounding out the top five in the study conducted by Purdue University and Wichita State University were Jet Blue (: 6.26, +0.02, +0.32%), Alaska (: 62.54, -0.17, -0.27%) and Southwest, which intends to close its takeover of Airtran in the next few months.
The airlines were judged in a variety of areas including on-time arrivals, mishandled baggage and a combination of 12 customer complaint categories.
There were more than 9,000 complaints registered last year with the Department of Transportation, half of which were for either flight problems or baggage handling issues.
The industry as a whole, though, seems to be improving, helped by better industry performance in three of the four areas tracked, including on-time arrival, mishandled baggage and involuntary denied boardings per passenger

Well, if you're going to call it "Flair", I believe 12 pieces IS the minimum...

First off, congrats to FL. I have some friends over there, and job well done to all you guys/girls.

More importantly, this study is the most flawed, steaming pile of academic garbage free of real analysis that I have ever seen. I'll see if I can dig up my post from last year on this topic, because my point remains the same.

All these airline rankings are subjective, however you don't get the number 1 spot with out some qualitative advantages. Congrats Airtran If you change the weights given to areas of performance you can alter the result to your liking. Personally, I think airplanes with red bellies are under valued in this study

Default I have to admit you gotta wonder

With some of the stuff I expirienced I have to wonder how we end up at the top of the survey. That said we do work hard and make the best of what we have.
Example: lowest mis-handled baggage rate. The stuff I see done loading and unloading bags I have to wonder how we win that category. Especially since much of our bag handling is contracted out.
I mean operations seem to get done but in a less than efficient way at times. What worries me a little is that IF you believe the survey then everyone else is more disfunctional. Perhaps the survey is a steaming load.
What is really funny is we are bigger than Alaska but when I tell people who I work for they go "who?" Oh yeah I flew you to Hawaii, I say no that was ATA and they are not in business any more.

I suppose attitude counts for a lot. We can't let the man get us down. "Did you get that memo?" I say no to TPS reports!!! (another Office Space reference)

Still better first than last. It must really be the Key Stone Cops running Eagle . (Joking). Although my Eagle friends would probably agree.
