Virgin @ ORD- the UAL California wars begin

Welcome to ORD, Virgin America!

United offers bonus miles to fly between ORD and California
We are giving customers twice as many reasons to fly on us between ORD and California this summer. Mileage Plus members who reside in Illinois or California and book nonstop UA and CO flights between ORD and SFO or ORD and LAX may earn double elite qualification miles and double award miles when traveling before Aug. 31 (terms and conditions on www.united.com).

Customers may choose from up to 17 nonstop flights between ORD and SFO, and as many as 12 nonstops between ORD and LAX. UA and CO together offer customers traveling from ORD more than 600 daily departures to more than 145 cities worldwide. In addition, we offer nearly 250 daily departures from SFO, and nearly 200 daily departures from LAX to points throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Australia.

“Whether travelers choose an airline for convenience, flexible schedules, competitive fares or loyalty rewards, there is no better choice between Chicago and California than United Airlines,” said Marketing Sr. VP Mark Bergsrud. “And with the industry's leading frequent flyer program, United offers travelers more ways than ever to use their miles.”

In addition, elite-level members of Mileage Plus earn unlimited upgrades to first class on all domestic UA and CO flights. All UA-operated flights between ORD and SFO and ORD and LAX offer Economy Plus.

UAL and AA will squash them.

Wow UAL

The bully on the block when it comes to such a small airline. But rolls over when it comes to one a little bit bigger. Southwest airlines is moving into Denver with a vengeance and UAL just turns it's head did not our airline say it would protect Denver no matter what.

No wonder we are giving all the flying to CAL. And 1437 of our pilots are on the street..

UAL has always treated DEN like the red-headed stepchild. They rolled over when F9 came back to town and did the same thing with SWA. However, ORD is a whole different story...

Actually, I knew that. Just an attempt at humor while awaiting for retirements and recalls.

How did Shuttle by United workout there United?

UAL OWNED the west coast flying at one point but has systematically abandoned most of those markets. SEA to LA, for example, is served only by outsourced RJ's. Half the flying from SEA to SFO is served by RJ's and overall significantly reduced. PDX, OAK, ONT, and on and on - same story.

I think Virgin will flourish in this market for the following reasons:

Passenger entertainment and "cool factor" - United can't touch that.
Virgin will attract point to point traffic - connections don't matter.
The United passenger experience - people have memories.

Of course that's just me, and I'm bitter ;)
