Default Bethune?

Anyone out there have any takes on G Bethune's move to Cob @ Aloha? For the past couple of years, I heard that he was working with UAL trying to facilitate the dreaded CAL/UAL merger. Just trying to read the tea leaves. Aloha doesn't seem to be GB's are of expertise.

Gordo will make millions in salary, bonus, and stocks and leave. He's a CEO, that's what they do.

Does he still need to get the [x] in the Block of Screwing over his employees before he goes?, or has he got that X already?

Default Merger dreaded more by which pilot group

I got the biased version from my bro at CAL...He says a CAL/UAL merger would screw him big time (assuming DOH merger)...he says he's 340 #s from EWR 737 CA and he's only been at CAL for 13 months!

I hear rumblings from the UAL guys--what do they have to lose???

My sentiments exacltly. I'm ~250 #'s, and have no desire 2 merge, didn't at USAir either. Hope nothing happens. I think consolidation will eventually occure, hope it's 25 years from now.

he's already got it. increased his retirement as he left and then the employees were told they needed to take paycuts.

I've never understood why people thought he was this great CEO because he never did anything spectacular when times were tough. (economically)

Understandably the DOJ really does not like big monopolies. If a proposed combo will take more that 23-25% of business in this country they'll veto it. No matter how bad the boys from the street want it.

Unless someone is dying... DOJ might let it happened but probably after considerable downsizing. As long as the oil prises are more or less under control I think everybody is safe.

I think it's just because he has great social skills. He would go out and meet and talk to people and explain what was going on at the airline, make them feel he cared, which I think he did.
Was he worth his salary +bonuses? I don't think so.

That's exactly what he did and he did it very well. When he assumed control, we were the biggest Piece of **** carrier out there and nobody working there gave a rats ass about anything. He brought in a competent money guy, (Greg Brenneman), and started getting workers to care about the company.

He was very effective, although way overpaid, (especially when he left). During his tenure we did go from the absolute worst major out there to one of the best.

All in all he was probably Continentals best CEO and was light years better than out current one, Bean countin' Larry.
