What is the skinny on AA/mainline hiring (if at all) contract instructors ? Requirements, is part-time available, and how do you get your name noticed.

Job Description

Conducts instruction in a classroom, cockpit procedures trainer, simulator and aircraft for all flight crews in airplane systems; normal, abnormal and emergency procedures. Evaluates student progress each day and takes appropriate corrective action and/or makes referral. Reviews revisions to all manuals and publications to insure the latest information is taught to student scorekeepers. Continually reviews and researches operating manual, maintenance manuals, ECO's, fleet planning directives and other training related material to update teaching objectives, outlines and training aids. Reviews various engineering publications to incorporate equipment modifications. Conducts research on specialized maintenance problem areas to identify training needs. Prepares classroom facilities and assembles all required materials for each day's class. Completes required forms and records to assure proper documentation of training. Works with technical training support and program development personnel to develop, upgrade and revise computer based training and audio/visual training programs. Assists in the development of all training aids and materials. Maintains a working knowledge of all appropriate FAA directives to insure compliance in all areas of training.


Qualifications
Must have at least one (1) year as an instructor in some technical phase of aviation training
Must be a rated Pilot,*Flight Engineer, Navigator, or other flight crew member --and/or--*have had a minimum of three (3) years of maintenance or maintenance training experience on aircraft of the type used in commercial airline service
Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
Must fulfill comprehensive background and/or fingerprint checks to satisfy security requirements, if applicable.

This is a full-time position. I have never seen them hire part -time, though some sim-p also instruct at other training facilities, or so I've heard.

I recently met a part-time Delta sim instructor, he had pass benefits, JS priv, etc, and he wasn't working too hard. He did other stuff on the side for income.

That got my interest up and wanted to ask....

Do these guys get a seniority number or pref interview for a line pilot at AA?

Not that I have ever heard. Many over 65, some have lost medical. Unlike some who have a preference program for guys from the schoolhouse, I am unaware of such at AA. With the cost to train instructors and the resources it takes, I'd be surprised to see them start a part time program.

No seniority number as it applies to pilots only. It is a ground position only as an instructor.

Make a good impression with and don't **** off the CP if you conduct training for him... and who knows... maybey they will put in a good word for you.
