No let me see if I have this right. Another thread defines the term scabs as people working the same job at lower wages than industry standards. OK... now DAL, NWA, to name a couple of carriers took pay cuts of 30 percent and greaater. Now these guys are being paid well below industry standards when you compare their salaries to Fed Ex, UPS, CAL, SWA, etal. And wait, the confusion continues. These lower than industry standard salaries were negotiated by... who? Thier unions!
Do we have a double standard here? Can somebody please help me out here? |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing you might be one of the "cheap bastards."
Also, I don't worry about the crap going on in the industry in the US becuase I as well as yourself have no control over the situation. I choose not to be a sheep and follow the masses. And by the way Einstine, I have not two nickels to rub togehter... but two quarters to rub together! Enjoy your time being bitter, if you so desire. I never joined the asylum and have a life. |

Well first lets learn to spell. I believe its politics you are trying to spell. No... I am not a scab. I saw the light back in the '70s. I chose to work for non US carriers rather than be a cookie cutter product of the legacy carriers. Better pay, living conditions QOL, and best of all, no angry pilots.
I bet I can tell what category you fall under.:o who do you work for? |

Yes I will correct you young neohpyte. I did not see so much solidarity when it came to signing the T/A at DAL and NWA when threats were made by all members that they would never in a million years accept such pay cuts. They would go on strike before taking paycuts.

Yo---who's bitter here dude. Not me. Glad to hear things are going so well for you flying outside the US. I guess you have it all figured out--do you guys even have a union? Or is life that good that you don't need one? Did you happen to see what happened here in the US on 911, or were you too busy living the cush life flying some non-US colors? Do you think that it might have had an effect on NWA/DAL turning a profit, or was that the unions fault too? I suppose ALPA is to blame for the rag craniums flying into buildings, low airline pilot wages, and the passenger flying world being on it's ass in general----yea, your right---I'm the bitter one, I'm hauling boxes---I should have defected like you. |

NWA, DAL, AA, UAL, etal were in the financial spiral long before 9/11 due to overhiring and over purchase of aircraft and saturation of flights by every airline known to mankind on the same routes with empty seats. Expat pilots don't belong to any unions since we are not employed by the airline directly. Our pay, medical, retirement, and insurance benefits, QOL are as stipulated within various provisions of our individual contracts with the contracting agency(ies). If we want to fly overtime, we do so with a very handsome bonus. Who needs the head ache of walking a picket line or even being angry with management. My only worries is what should I eat and where should I play golf on my days off. Happy flying from the capt. |

You were the one implying that the "union" was to blame for the pay cuts at DAL/NWA. So glad you're at a place where you don't have to take a stand and can be a money *****. Good for you, because aparantly it's all about you dude. Hell, you got yours right? |
