I think I just saw it on CNN... the name was "Jerome Babbit", but it did say he was the FAA adminstrator.

FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt was arrested on Saturday in a Washington,D.C., suburb on a DWI charge. Randy Babbitt, head of the Federal Aviation Administration, has been charged with driving while intoxciated, WUSA reports.

City of Fairfax police say that the 65-year-old Babbitt, who lives in Reston, Va., was stopped after a police officer allegedly saw his car traveling on the wrong side of the road in a Washington, D.C., suburb.

WUSA reports that Babbitt was taken to the Adult Detention Center and placed on a personal recognizance bond.

Babbit took over as FAA administrator in June 2009

The head of the Federal Aviation Administration was charged with drunk driving Saturday night by Fairfax City police after being spotted driving on the wrong side of Old Lee Highway, according to the arresting officer.


(Manuel Balce Ceneta - AP) FAA Administrator Jerome Randolph “Randy” Babbitt, 65, of Reston, was alone in his vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Old Lee Highway and was not involved in any accident, police said. He cooperated with the officer and was released on his own recognizance after being taken before a magistrate.

U.S. Department of Transportation spokeswoman Sasha J. Johnson said the agency planned to release a statement later today.

Babbitt was sworn in as the FAA’s 16th administrator in June 2009. He is a veteran pilot and flew for 25 years for Eastern Airlines, according to his official biography.

Babbitt’s arrest information was made public in accordance with a Fairfax City police general order that says the arrest of public officials, including federal officials, for “any criminal charge or serious traffic charge (e.g. driving under the influence, reckless driving)” will be released.

Babbitt faces a Feb. 2 court appearance, said Sgt. Joe Johnson, a Fairfax City police spokesman.

Fairfax Police do not release the blood-alcohol level of those charged, or the results of roadside sobriety tests, said Johnson. State law defines DWI as a .08 blood alcohol concentration.

How ironic the chief of the very governmental office whose duty it is to ensure pilots aren't pickled spitless at the helm of a motor vehicle without investigation is apparently himself arrested for suspicion of being crocked out of his gourd in that very place.

Is it two or more DUI's in a car (or even in a motor boat) and they can cut your flying career off?

So 1 DUI for the ADMINISTOR should be grounds for removal.

Randy Babbitt, administrator of the FAA, was taken into custody Saturday by Fairfax County police and charged with driving while intoxicated, local news has reported. At about 10:30 p.m. Babbitt was seen driving on the wrong side of the road and was pulled over. He was alone in the car at the time and no accident related to the incident has been reported. After being taken to a local jail, he was released on a personal recognizance bond. Babbitt flew 25 years for Eastern Airlines and was sworn in to lead the FAA on June 1, 2009.

Jeez..........he must have been really skunked.

His age: 65 coincidence? I don't think so. I smell a "mandatory retirement" coming.
