With the current pay rates and exchange rates, you don't have much of a choice.

And don't be surprised to see people standing on the side of the canal using it as a urinal.

They still are, and can be found at most train stations. I had my own bike with me the one time I was there, and I found the riding to be a blast, especially when compared to most cities in the US. Everyone in Holland rides, and bikes form the top of the urban-transportation food chain- everybody yields to you.

Knowing that you're a cyclist, I'd also recommend a visit to the flea markets. I was shown to them by a friend, and amazing deals can be had on wool club-team jerseys, which are perfect for winter riding, and often are classy enough to wear off of the bike.

Every bar I went into there was great, and they all serve coffee, which I thought was a great idea... Does anyone, however, know what's up with that little butterknife they use to level off the head of your beer? Quaint, but odd...

The red-light district wasn't really my thing, but it's definitely worth seeing. Avoid the pastries they sell there at all costs- they look amazing, like the cartoon ideal of the doughnut, but taste like cardboard... Much better desserts are to be found elsewhere in the city...
