Credit Card fraud at JetBlue T5 JFK

Quick heads-up; there have been multiple documented cases of fraudulent credit card charges originating from the food court, restaurants, and CIBO stores at Terminal 5 JFK. JetBlue corporate security has been investigating the issue for at least 6 months, but as yet have been unable to stop the charges. The most recent known case of this fraud occuring was this past Monday, January 30.

If you are commuting in and out of JFK on JetBlue I strongly advise using cash for any food transactions. If you must use a credit card, or have in the recent past, be on the alert for attempts to use your card at Wawa gas stations and for large gift-card purchases. Like many other airports the food court and restaurants are all run by a central vendor, OTG, and the cases of fraud have originated from multiple sources within our terminal.

Thanks for the heads up. There was a similar problem coming from the diner style restaurant by gate 40 or so at AA terminal 8. My girlfriend bought lunch and ended up with a 300 dollar charge in Brooklyn the next day. I work for JB I'll let corporate security know, maybe there is a connection.

New theft method of credit cards with wireless capabilites or blutooth. I forget the exact method but something came out recently where scanners even off IPhone can pick up the code wirelessly from your credit card and get the info stored on their IPhone. Very big in NY and UK, technically the new modern way of pick pockets without even getting near you. So if your credit card has that capability beware.

Threats to RFID enabled credit cards have been around for a while. This video is from 2008 and talks about reading RFID cards "in the future" with a enhanced receiver/antenna.

They probably are trying to catch someone in the act. If they warned us word would get out and the jackasses would stop the fraud. Hope they get em, not the best experience for customers courtesy of T5. Cash it is for a while...

This. Although there have been verified cases for at least six months now; IMHO that's long enough for them to catch someone in the act.

Sadly, it seems corporate security primarily exists to force JetBlue pilots to go through security theater in places like LGB and LAS where everyone else uses alternate methods.

Any idea if the fraud is at the point of sale, or if the info being scraped some other way?

Card number was stolen twice this summer, 2 card numbers within 2 months. First was all online purchases over 3k worth before BofA shut it down, second time was spent at a WaWa in Allentown, PA. Beware!

The best guess at this point has emulators lifting the data off magnetic strips at several points of sale, all of which are owned by OTG. They seem to be sent to a central collection point which then is generating the dummy cards. None of the cases that I'm personally aware of involve cards with the RFID chip.

Whoa- I may have seen some guys purchasing credit gift cards while commuting home late one night last month...(!) It was at a Wawa in Warrington, PA (south of Allentown, north of Philly). Cashier says same guys come into her store once a week to purchase these cards. They are from NY (I saw the license plate but didn't bother to remember the number). After reading this post I now understand what they may have been doing. The cashier reported the issue to her manager. Manager said they were doing nothing wrong. As I remember it now they purchased the cards using cash...
