Any chance to Drop ALPA and start a new Union?
Here at NWA there is talk of Dumping ALPA for an alternative Union of some sort. May it be Teamster or in house Union of NWA Pilots. What other choices do we have? I have only flown at ALPA sponsered airlines. I realize we need some type of union to protect our jobs to some degree, but ALPA has failed, and members are getting sick of ALPA National and the waste of union dues, over payed staff that make more money then line pilots and list goes on. Maybe we need to go back to the basics and start over again, and have a union that only works for a single pilot group. Its pretty bad when people are running around here and hoping for a merger just so we can get out of this new contract. I've been there, done that! NO Thanks!!How about getting a new Union and submit a new contract?

Look you folks went through some bad times over ther, but I agree with the previous poster. ALPA did not get you into the situation your in....NWA MGT did. In the 80's NWA had the strongest balance sheet in the industry, then Checci with the leverage buyout loaded NWA with heavy debt. You folks over came it then. If your mad about your current contract and I don't blame you, do you really think an Independent Union or the IBT could have got you anything better? Chances are no. The combined indiviual UNITY and resolve is the only thing that will get you a better deal............That and compentent MGT that makes your company profitable.

Wrong again. Your local reps go to Herndon to get training. Your local reps use the legal and financial advice supplied by National. In a manner of speaking, National leaves your Local swinging in the wind.
All of the ALPA carriers have taken huge paycuts. Haven't heard the same from those in Herndon.
You can change your representation with one vote. It doesn't require tearing one down and starting over. Your existing contract will still be in force.

Not quite all... For some strange reason I believe that those paycuts are somehow realted to the financial situations at those ALPA carriers that have taken paycuts.

Your right about that. When we voted the FPA out in 2002 in favor of reinstating ALPA we still had our crappy FPA negotiated contract in force.

Gulfstream is teamsters so what does that mean? One of the worst airlines is teamsters. CAL started their own IACP, then went back to ALPA. The acronym doesn't matter, it the pilots. Pilots are taking pay cuts due to 9/11, not ALPA. ALPA is not a union of airline pilots, it is a bunch of micro unions of airline pilots and that is part of the problem with ALPA. Their is no industry unity, just a bunch of pilot groups fighting to get more than their competitors. We should all support each other and strike for each other, then and only then will we have strength and unity.
