If you support the mandatory age 60 retirement, then please take 20 minutes out of your busy day and write a letter to your Senator, especially if you have a Democrat, and tell him you are opposed to changing the age 60 rule. Tell him to oppose Sen. Stevens back door legislation. (see "Age 60 Under Attack" on this forum). We need to match the effort of all the pro change guys. Apathy could be lethal to your career!!! As Nike says.....just do it!!! Write the letter!!!

Im not sure if I support the 60 rule or not. In a sense I feel that if you can SAFELY do your job at that age then more power to you. On the back side though I want to live the dream that senior captains have (you are very fortunate to have the major captain status), and the 60 rule helps me get that much closer. If I never get there so be it, and if your dream is to continue to fly past that then I have no objections. Good luck to the dinosaurs on future flying, you have paved the way for all of us who would love to see the world as you see it.

Its the FAA's job to make the skies as safe or safer. Changing the retirement age to 65 does neither. You pro age 60 guys are in for a rude awakening when the FAA steps in and weighs in on the issue.
It might make it through riding on the back of some large senate bill but its a whole other can o' worms dotting the I's and crossing the T's on implementation.
Won't happen anytime soon if the FAA has anything to do with it.

Safety. Changing the age to 65 will not make aviation more safe.
Career progression. For example, United will retire 275 pilots next year. Most out of the left seat of a big jet. This will lead to career progression of many pilots and the return of furloughed pilots. All the 275 Captains retiring next year have enjoyed the career progression associated with age 60 retirement, now it is time to move on.
