Analysts have suggested that a few US airlines may have returned to profit in Q2 after a period of losses.
Thomson Financial has reportedly carried out a poll of analysts, and they expect Continental Airlines Inc and Alaska Air Group Inc to report profits for the second quarter of 2005. Some have also said that American Airlines may post a net profit as well as an operating profit for the first time in more than four years.
The reason for the optimism is reportedly the fact that US airlines have reported strong traffic figures for the past three months, resulting in fuller aircraft and some fare increases due to demand in some markets.
