The TA in its current state... some thoughts

Caution: Unless you already hold the highest-paying seat, allowing more workdays per month may actually cost you money. Everyone senior to you can also fly more, and that delays your upgrade.

At SWA 72% of every pay hour is represented by a block hour flown. At DAL that number is 59%. There are structural differences in the network that drive about 6% inefficiency (9 fleet types, hub and spoke), but our efficiency is still down about 6-7% from pre-merger Delta. The work rule modifications recognize the changes to the network since the merger (22% summer peak to fall trough block hour change) and smooths out the flying annually so we don't have so many reserves sitting around in the fall and winter. In return, reserves got the highest compensation increase in the contract and 6 more guaranteed days off per year. Between the early retirement program, positive manning changes like asterisk rotation rules and increased days off, and the staffing formula backstop what you describe should not come to pass.

Not sure if this rumor even applies to this TA, but this is the second reference I've heard regarding bringing the AirTran pilots over with the 717s. The first was from a SWA buddy at my guard unit. I thought he was joking initially. I guess RA / ALPA have a plan for everything.
If the AirTran pilots are an unhappy bunch now...what kind of deal would ALPA have to work to appease them if they come to mother Delta?
NO, thank you.

Most if not all news articles report we are subleasing them from SWA.DAL had a news release a few days ago with no mention of Boeing.Everything in release mentioned agreement was with SWA.
