Who would apply for that kind of treatment?
Well, if you're young, unattached and can suck it up if the operation folds (or have a reserve gig you can fall back of for a while) - the chance to be #20 on the roster is not a bad thing if they make the business work. If it does fold, well you got a A-320 type rating and 121 experience out of the deal and you're back at XJT, et. al.

Just my $.01 (only a penny for Skybus)

I suppose you can look at it as another "Commuter" or RJ job sure, but the reality is they're looking for 5000TT and time in A320's for their initial group.. no?

CE750,

My comment was more towards the current regional guys, when they start hiring FO's next year. I know from seeing them at AIR, Inc in DCA that they are working the furloughed guys hard for the initial cadre.

if a check airman gets 65K what the heck does a regular captain get, im guessin anyone currently with those qualifications at a regional are taking a paycut, maybe lateral at best, if they went over there

And the sad truth is they'll be lining up for it..

I remember when I was on the J/S on a DAL L1011 and the FO was telling me that he didn't understand us "commuter" pilots that flew RJ's for $30K/yr.. Said that he believed that if we were given the chance to fly a 777 for the same wages, we'd do it. I scoffed at the remark and blamed it on his frustration with scope clauses.

yea, right..

JetBlue, Virgin America, SkyBus, won't exist in 10 to 15 years. However there will be new LCC's called SkyTravel, FastJet, and HoopJet's, the trend is never ending.

That's a little bold, first of all how can you predict anything when it comes to airlines. Anything that is a startup takes time to grow and find it's base, Southwest used to be considered the odd man out for a long long time and look at where they are now. Jetblue is one of the best airlines as far as customer experience. SkyBus is supposed to be a Ryanair for the States. Who knows, maybe in 15 years JetBlue might buy out UA, why not? Would people have been able to predict America West buying US Airways 15 years ago?

airlines have learned alot just by watching air tran in Atlanta. Delta laughed when they first came in, and now Air Tran is fairly succesful. If you think any airline (southwest, Air Tran) included will just sit by and let any new LCC come in you are crazy. Every airline will do their best to smother them before they ever get a foothold
