Please don't take this as an attack but,.... you seem to have good handle on the fact that everything from pay work rules and pensions have been gutted but then you go on to say that you can get your experience then go to the legacy.

If we do not protect the pay and work rules there will be no legacy airline to go to. You yourself say you have put pressure on your family but the money is too good to leave your situatuion.

How then will it be better for anyone when the majors are forced to compete with the likes of Skybus and Virgin. Recent history has told us that the first thing management will attack is pay and benefits. Are you sure you want to work for a company whose mechanics get raises because minimum wage goes up. Whose rampers drive you, the one responsible into the fuel truck because someone with 60/90 vision was the only person they could get to take the job? When your FO's bread and butter job is at 7/11 and he calls off to make sure he can refill the coffee pot. Not me!

This has nothing to do with being a union member or non union member, if people want to make it better they the people have to make it better and stand up for something. If the company cannot get people in the classes or interviews they will have to raise the stadnards they are willing to pay.

$65,000 a year is a joke for any professional pilot, we have gone low enough. The time is now to "Take it Back!!!!!!"

Why can't these boys understand that labor costs are the one area where management can cut with impunity. The can't cut the cost of money, capital or fuel.

So when a Skybus, VX or B6 shows up, they make the cuts where they need to compete. Wages, benefits and work rules.

Simple.

Why is that so hard for some of you out there to understand. Is it a coincidence that UAL and USAir used the bankruptcy court to reduce their narrowbody pay rates to B6 levels? And you don't seriously doubt they'll do anything in their power to drop to VX rates (if VX gets off the ground) and then to Skybus rates?

In fact, they may just skip VX and go straight to Skybus.

Thanks guys. Thanks for stabbing us in the back. And you expect me to give you a free ride to work?

Grounded,

Not taking your post as a personal attack, and for the most part you are right about protecting the salaries. I hope that green face gets his pay back to what is was before 9/11. UAL and DAL had rates up to $325/hour. The problem is/was not the LCC. Southwest carved out a niche with simple Low Cost service and I remember the major pilots and management screaming about them (been at this career a while). Now SWA has the some of the best pay scales.

I don't believe that B6, VX and Skudbus will make any of the legacies go away or even keep the salaries at the big boys too low.

If you are F/O on the 1900, where do you plan to go? Legacy? SWA? What is the market for you righ now. Just curious.

Sir Lime Face,
Ok, you are fat dumb and happy at your present, I assume, legacy job (as I was). Some chuckleheads take over the headshed and the next thing you know, you are out on the street. You just might be over 50, and guess what, someone at one of these new startups offer you a captains position at 65-90k a year starting. Do you take it or do you, for the sake of the profession turn your back on it and start a lawn service or start with a company the likes of Amway? But you have such high principles, of course you would turn it down, just for the rest of us. I appreciate it.

I said the same thing to that green face clown a while back, his response was he rather wash cars then take a job at a non-union airline which I highly doubt.

I don't wish anything bad towards him or anyone, I just have a problem with him or anyone thinking less of JB, VA or skybus pilots
