Macbook Air security access
We all know local TSA units will arbitrarily make their own policy. With that said, simple question:
Does TSA allow a 13" Macbook Air (not the 11", the 13") through security without taking it out of your bag? Bonus round:
Thanks. I'd make this a poll (yes or no) if I knew how. |

After having a laptop get fried by static by being in the tub sliding over a metal table, I always have my laptops in a soft case inside one half of those butterfly checkpoint friendly computer bags. Never had any hassles with the tub stackers.

I have a Dell Mini 9 with a SSD and no cd roms, so nothing moves in it.
Dca is 95% always take it out. Everywhere else is 99% dont take it out when Im in uniform, out of uniform 75% dont make me take it out. I never it take it out unless they ask, since their website says no moving part does not have to come out, but who are they to ever follow their own policy. |
Some stations (Conus) even make me take my Ipad out of my laptop bag.
Heathrow goes nuts and practically disassembles my whole bag. Oconus, alot of stations don't care. |

I was told the iPad and the MacBook Air do not have any 'circuitry' so you can leave it in your bag. Others with the typical hard drive has to be taken out of the bag.

Ummm, I'm 100% sure only 63% of that is correct.
Point is I have a 9inch netbook with no moving parts, I never take it out, and go months without hearing a word. If I am out of uniform it is slightly more likely to be requested to be taken out. DCA seems to love to request it be taken out, along with an attitude about how its a system wide policy I take it out. It does say on the TSA website that you dont have to take out netbooks with SSD. My favorite the other day was I was going through TSA in a small Carolina city and some woman was yelling at everyone to put the bags in wheels up, and that its a system wide policy that it must be done that way. Must be their way of confusing the bag guys. |

That post didn't say a word about MacBook Air. I think you meant this one:
The TSA Blog: MacBook Airs (Along with many other computers and gadgets) are Still Clear for Take Off 11' OK, 13" gotta come out. BTW since when is a blog the vehicle for delivering what the TSA screens/removes, etc.? Too friendly. |

OK, mine was a 100% attempt at humor given the percentages used so I'm about 93% sure you missed that. :D
