Nice video on crosswind landings
|
I noticed almost all the aircraft landing in the video are lined up downwind of the centerline. I personally was taught to line up upwind. These guys did an amazing job except for the 75 that lands on his nose wheel. What is everyone's technique?

I always try to start on centerline and stay on centerline. Any drift either direction isn't intentional, but in feeling out the wind I may tend to drift downwind slightly until getting it figured out.

Watch the front cockpit window in relation to the center-line. What you are seeing is; most pilots put themselves on the center-line and then when they kick in the rudder, it rotates the A/C around the CG, effectively moving the cockpit down wind. Then they must put aileron into the wind and slip back up-wind to get back on center-line.
Watch all the landings again, only not looking at the aircraft, but only the front cockpit window as it tracks in relation to center-line. |
I do what it takes to land that b1tch.

Great video, thanks for sharing!
