yeah, I'm only asking because I was thinking of starting to apply soon but I don't want to apply to places like Colgan if when this merger goes through Delta decides to "do away" with all the turboprop flying and goes strictly to jets

Some regional’s actually own part of Us Air like Air Wisky for instance, but what about those airlines such as Colgan or others operating as US Airways Express? Will they simple go out of business? I have been holding out for a long time to apply to the right regional and I want to make sure I don't go down a road that is destined to end. I've been on these fourms for a long time and just now registered. Those that are involved or simply looking in from the outside, what are your thoughts?

You'll never find the perfect time to try the regionals. It's kinda like standing at the roulette wheel waiting to get into the game until the perfect time so that you'll guarantee a win. I held out waiting for the perfect time for 3+ years before I decided I didn't have the stomach to try it.

In this business you either need to sh!t or get off the pot. If you wait around for things that might happen maybe sometime in the not too distant future if this that and the other take place then you will never end up doing much of anything. The best thing to do is make the best decision you can with the information you have. When I say information I mean facts. Do your best to base your decision on things you can verify, not conjecture, rumors or hearsay. Things change so rapidly in this industry that it is impossible to look more than 6mos or a year into the future and predict who's gonna be doing what with whom. Comair, ASA and ACA are great examples of how quickly things can change in this business. So I guess to answer your question about what will happen to the regionals that feed US Airways and Delta IF a merger were to go through: no one knows. Not even the CEOs of the companies involved.

hey I was wondering the same thing, I just got in with Colgan and I hope this merger would not cripple to company. Have any of the guys who work there heard anything about this?

THe Merger may happen the turbo props are not going away. There are too many airports served my Saabs, Dash 8s and Beeches to toss them from the system, by the time a merger would get that far you should be furghlouged from the next airline anyway. Apply away. Be dumb and a puppet Chuck will hire you.

Z_Pilot 11-15-2006 02:38 PM

Delta's and US's fleets are anything but "synergized"

Thousands will lose thier jobs.

Otto,

After the first merger (Cactus-US), the company actually started recalling furloughs, not putting more people out. Can you explain what would make this case different? Just wondering.

Mike,

Mr. Parker stated he expected 10% fewer seats overall. The two, well, three companies have 800+ aircraft between them. There are a lot of routes that overlap, especially on the shuttle. They are going make one huge shuttle and sell the excess. Yes, they are recalling now, but that means less hiring in the future. I don't know if 10% fewer seats equates to
10% fewer aircraft ... I'm sure somebody smarter than me will come along and clarify. They also stated no furloughs, but we've heard that one before. Good luck, all.

One seniority list stapled to the bottom of another...it is good to be the king...

atpwannabe 11-15-2006 03:59 PM

My question is: How will this affect Comair?

I can't think of any way this could be good for comair (if it happens).

Doug Parker is known to dislike RJ's, especially 50's. I think turboprops will be safe under his auspices.

Sooo, wouldn't that be good for the industry? lol

rickair7777 11-15-2006 04:26 PM

The timing of this proposal is a little transparent...I think it was timed to occur before DL could issue the award for the new/modified regional flying. If DL makes any committments now (after the Ch. 11 filing), Parker would be obligated to honor them if he acquired DL.

Now that this is on the table, the BK judge will likely not approve the award of any regional flying until the acquisition is resolved.

Doug Parker has certain regional(s) in mind that he does NOT want to have any part in his future... (4 letters, starts with "M").

favila008 11-15-2006 04:30 PM

Wouldn't that be good, MESA GONE, is always good news.

This didn't take long.

It's what I'd like to stick up Doug Parker's ass.

Sitting around ops BSing before a trip and I mentioned this USA/DAL hostile takeover to the capt when the news first hit. We're contemplating the issues of 3 seniority lists, etc, and I mentioned something about the earlier acquisition of USAir by AW when this chick FO sitting next to me, not part of the conversation, spits out that USAir merged with AW, it wasn't an acquisition! Turns out she's furloughed from USAir and has landed safe and sound at Brown, but she's still burning over the takeover of her alma mater (which put her on the street). If former employees can be that bitter over getting bought out it gives you an idea of what lies ahead if DAL gets bought. Ugly.
