UAL Nonrev Question

Sorry for this stupid question folks:

Are nonrevs allowed to deplane and make connections in the case of an international through flight? I want to get from GIG - IAH and the best way is to take UA860 from GIG - GRU, then jump on the flight from GRU - IAH. UA860 continues to IAD from GRU. Thanks!

I do it all the time in NRT, so I think you'll be fine. Just keep a computer printout or boarding pass to show the connection to the itnl connection ID checker.

Although its a shorter flight, do whatever you can to keep your carry-ons with you.

If the flight is full, the counter will check them, bagtag and all, which turns your bags into checked luggage.

It will end up in baggage claim, halfway through your trip, trying to make your connection.

Have fun in Rio. Does UA have the same Cargo program that DL does in South America? We non-rev into GRU often (with DL) and it's always a disaster trying to get back. Non-revs get bumped for Cargo routinely down there. Hurts to see a 767-400 leave you with 30-40 empty seats in the back..

Tell me about it. Recently went to scl. Coming back on DL, 767 left about 20 of us stranded. Next day only 3 of us got on. 15 left stranded again. One girl paid $2000 to buy a ticket. Another guy was so upset he kicked the wall and yelled. Other girls crying. The captain talked to me when I was on the plane and said he was fighting with them to send more onto the plane. He asked me if all the active employees got on at least.
I know CAL would show that a number of seats were being held for cargo, but I don't think DL's travenet does that.?
It is very sad to witness.

No DL's system does not show you that. I wish it did.

It used to be in GRU that they wouldn't let non-revs leave the check-in counter to go to the gate until 10 minutes prior to closing out. Then they'd get the final phone call with how many seats are available and you'd have to run like hell to get through security and immigration to get to the plane in time.
