works for me! If it does for the combined wn/merger partner marker share with DL like what it did with us in ATL, bring it on!

And this time we get a plane that I really like to fly.

I'd rather be bottom of Delta than TOP of SWA.

Something to keep in mind (and probably mentioned already) is the type of flying you want to do in the future.

After almost a decade in the MD-80, I was twitchy and numb with the boredom of domestic narrowbody flying. Leg after leg into crappy weather in the Northeast especially. I switched to widebody longhaul, then 737 Caribbean for a few years, then back to Europe and Asia.

Dozing for $$ is hard to beat.

Point is, some airlines give one more choices than others.

That's a very interesting perspective. Top of SWA can make well north of $300K, better than our 777 Captains. And you'd prefer the bottom of Delta over that? That's obviously not a financial based decision. Is flying widebody international THAT important to you?

Is money THAT important to you?

nevermind, I already know the answer to that. I know this is hard for you to believe, but money isn't everything to everybody.

That is a very simplistic way of looking at the business transaction. First of all, if SWA made a play for JB, there would probably be other players that would drive the price up. Second, it would add complexity to SWA's operations that they clearly do not want. IOW.. they pay $2.1 billion for a bunch of airplanes and pilots that they would turn around and get rid of... in that case, $2.1 billion is a lot of money for JFK access. And SWA is still trying to digest a merger that is taking a lot of bicarbonate of soda. They are hardly in the position to go out and try it again. No.. a JB/VX merger makes far more sense to me... west coast, east coast carriers with little overlap. JMHO...

Are you seriously suggesting that it, if given the choice, it would be a smart decision for someone to pick being the bottom guy on Delta's seniority list versus being the top guy on SWA's seniority list (not that anyone would have that particular choice)?

My response to the poster who posted that had nothing to do with money being "everything." I was simply pointing out a pretty significant financial reality that would be a consideration for most people who are responsible in their role in providing for their family.

I know that SWA really gets under your skin but you need to be able to look at things rationally, not emotionally.

You have a sense of humor, that's for sure.

There are going to be a lot of guys, however, who don't share your sentiments, who will be flowing from the SWA FO list to Delta and other Legacies in the next few years.

With the prospect of a 20-year upgrade into the left seat of an aging 737, it ain't your Grandpa's SWA.

It is a hypothetical discussion. If I were 30 years old, I would in fact choose DAL over SWA. I have 5000 hours in the left seat of the 737. It was fun. I loved every minute of it. But I love being in the left seat of the 757/767 even more. It ain't all about money.... for me. 35 years of up/down/up/down/up/down... layover, repeat for the next 35 years.. .even though it might make my retirement account bigger, isn't the life I would choose. YOUR opinion is obviously different, and that's fine. It's arrogant of you to think that your POV is the only one that's relevant. There's no emotion involved. I wouldn't trade places with the number 1 SWA captain for $300,000 a year.
