Just got back from flying long segment commercial, and on two separate legs of a legacy carrier, the FA introduced the flight crew as "under the command of captain James and first officer William" (or something like that.) The captain did not introduce himself either.

WTH, now we go by first names only? Would you like me to introduce myself,

"Hi, I'm your surgeon, Billy, who will be performing your operation?"

Part of professionalism is being stable, responsible, not interchangeable, and a person, not just a service. I was really annoyed at this for some reason, are captains fearing being stalked by somebody? What possible justification would one have for not using their full name?

I can understand a bit for FA who might get offline harassment, but even for them, I would like to have ability to know full name.

Maybe I'm just tired, cranky, and overreacting, but would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

My company's F/A's do the same thing. Not really appropriate.
They should say, "Captain Smith, First Officer Jones".

I'm not sure if it has always been that way but I have noticed that passenger addresses from a lot of flight attendants now have become quite grammatically challenged. DHing the other day and one kept saying "ladies and gentlemens". While another flight the FA was referring to multiple aircraft as "aircrafts" They were both english native so simple english shouldn't be an issue.

Maybe we should start sending them to Derrick Zoolanders School for kids that can't read good and want to other things good too.

I think its dumb. Last name or no name at all. It sounds very unprofessional to hear first names.

How often do you walk into a Doctor's office and hear "I'm Doctor Bill, whats wrong today?"

A lot of regionals do that crap. I find it quite unprofessional.

They find it cute or Southwest-ish, but all it does is cheapen our job.

One that annoys the hell out of me for some reason is about 20 minutes prior to landing the FA comes on and gives the "Please ensure you seatbacks/traytables are in the upright and stowed position for the duration of the flight . . . ."

Maybe it's just me, but I always took duration to mean from beginning to end. What they mean to say is remainder of the flight. As in from this point forward, on through the completion.

I don't know why, but MANY of them do it, and it always bugs the crap out of me.

At the 10,000 foot chime "We've been cleared for landing." No.... we haven't!

Welcoming everyone to a destination while you're still at 10,000 feet and 50 miles out had always annoyed me.
