Too much time to get hired?
Is there a bias against guys with loads of time? I'm not really sure what the break over point would be.....12-14k maybe? Seems like I see a lot of guys with a lot of time that cant get called.....while guys with 1/2 their time are getting several.....same other stuff....degree, etc...even similar age....

In my new-hire class I was hired with 10K. Another had 11k and the highest timer had 12k. The rest of the civilians were between 4k-7k. The military were generally lower total time. My opinion is those with high time had better have something else on their resume. You should have check airman, sim instructor ect... If you have nothing to make you special that just shows you didn't put in any extra effort. You may be fun to fly with and a good stick but other than your total time you don't stick out from the crowd. With the stagnation we've seen over the last decade there are a lot of high time qualified applicants. The majors can be picky....for now.

high time
what type of place are you a new hire at? legacy,charter,etc...? What prompted this, is I was commuting the other day and got to the gate about the same time as 3 others....we were all gonna get on, and had about an hour to wait....we started chatting, and it lead to this discussion. I was the lowest time in the mid teens....3/4 worked at b scale places....2 were former or current check airman....the only guy that had even had a phone interview/prescreen was the one guy that got on at the tail end of the SWA hiring, and still had an app floating around the internet....he got the call for interview.....meanwhile....2 of the other guys FO's had been getting called and hired one Spirit, one USAir...both had 4-5000 hours...

I'm not sure if they "like them", but they give them a fair shot. I was hired and yes I am a Regional F/O. I had 6,000hrs total time and was the only regional F/O in my interview group of 12. The rest were F/Os at heavy Cargo airlines or regional CAs. (2 corporate guys) I would say USairways has probably hired more regional F/Os than Spirit the past 3 months. I think its a good thing btw....

I believe it also depends on the effort put in. A guy with 12K hours might think with that level of "experience" they should just drop their resume and get called. NK for example doesn't follow that model. A few other points on a resume take precedence over TT and in fact putting extra effort in it the largest factor, not just applying.
