Thumbs down Recall of DAL MEC Officers

Per MEC Alert 13-14 all 4 Officers are up for recall in a special meeting next Thursday.

What I got from my Rep is that this stems from the MEC Chairman letting go several full time volunteers from the previous administration who were offered positions in the spirit of compromise and conciliation who have not been supportive of his leadership. Those that did not want to see a change at the last MEC Chairman election are behind the recall effort.

I find it troubling the Web Boards were shut down last week as this was unfolding with the excuse it would take several weeks to upgrade the software. My Rep said they were told it would be a simultaneous switch at the last meeting. In the rest of the IT world software is migrated in a matter of hours not weeks.

At the risk of sounding paranoid, I had the same thought re: web board closure. Way too coincidental.

The question is, who's waiting in the wings?

Please tell me it's not T. "Neville Chamberlain" O'Malley.

So.....How does this work?
Do the LEC reps vote in favor or against the MEC reps individually or as a whole?
The LEC reps are the only ones who get to vote in a new MEC, is that right?

It is my understanding that each rep gets a vote for however many constituents he has. If there are 1000 fo's in a given base than that FO rep has 1000 votes.

The e-mail I received says that all 4 officers are up for recall individually. The LEC reps are the MEC - the MEC Administration (4 elected officers) works for them. I think all the Delta MEC elections are done via an open vote, but a recall can be done via a secret ballot of the 19 voting reps, with an officer recalled either by a 2/3 senatorial majority or simple senatorial majority and roll call majority. I'm not sure I've described the process accurately, but I'll bet we'll get more info on the process in the next couple of days.

I believe that is correct but if less than 2/3 it can be 50%+ senatorial OR roll call.

I'm not sure that makes sense...how does a 2/3 majority fit in if 50% + senatorial is all that's needed?

Nothing sinister going on wrt the web board. The changeover process to the new forum 2.0 or whatever it's being called has been in the works for several months. It received final approval at the special MEC meeting near the end of September.

My best guess for the delay in launching the new site is the new comm chairman (who is setting up the new forum) is up to his eyeballs with work, and the recent dust up has created more than a few distractions in the office. It's still coming, and will be way more with-the-times than the old bulletin board.

From the latest Policy Manual

SECTION 8 − RECALL

A. MEC officers and the ALPA member of the Delta Board of Directors (pilot director)

1. An MEC officer or the pilot director may be removed from office at any time by a two-thirds vote of the MEC conducted by secret ballot, with each MEC member having one vote.

2. A motion may be made from the floor requesting a second vote on the recall motion utilizing the roll-call procedure if at least 50 percent, but less than two-thirds, of the MEC have voted in favor of such recall. If requested, as the next order of business following the first recall vote, this motion must be allowed and will require a simple majority of roll-call votes in favor to effect the removal. (See Section 5 for roll-call vote procedures).

3. Agenda submission procedures for special MEC meetings will apply to placing the subject of recall on the agenda of either a regular or special MEC meeting if it is not on the advance agenda.
From what I gather there is not currently a 2/3 majority on the issue, so it will likely be decided by roll-call.
