Have had my app in since CFI days, constantly updating every couple months. Had United interview and TBNT back in March which I thought was my one lucky shot at being hired from the right seat and I blew it. Never expected Delta but all it takes is 1 email to change your life again. Extremely humbled and blessed for this opportunity and ready to spend the rest of my career being a part of the Delta family! For guys stuck in the right seat there is hope! Im proof of it now!
Man, this post was inspiring. I am a regional guy who is actually looking to enlist as a USAF crew chief, on the guard side though. The time away from flying is not a big deal: it's about being a well rounded individual that has something to offer beyond flying alone. Hopefully can use the GI Bill to go for a masters degree as well. Big congrats to you...and thanks for your service.

SiShane, how early did you start going to these job fairs. Would it be too early if I was, say, only a 4000 TT 2000 SIC RJ guy about to upgrade?? If anyone else wants to chime in as well, that would be great. And yes, I know many more people out there deserve the job before me, but I'm simply trying to be proactive and drool over the thought of an interview to a "new an improved life". I just want to look good when the time comes and make "Al" happy (The hiring algorithm, as previously mentioned)

What if you're two squares away from getting hired, one square bring upgrade and the other a job fair? If the airline wants a job fair appearance and an upgrade you might get called as soon as you finish your IOE. I know of several guys that have made significant bumps to their resume (upgrade, IP or 121 for mil guys), or have attended a second job fair, and have been called within two weeks of the change. Maybe they were about to be called anyway but the frequency of their success leads me to suspect the improvement in their resume was the triggering event.

I asked 10-12 new hires to survey their new hires classmates. Got 84 responses - 63% had attended job fairs. If they had attended job fairs mil guys averaged 1.7 (NGPA, WAI, OBAP) and civilian new hires had averaged 2.5 job fairs.

At most the recruiters are seeing 10-15% of the candidates at job fairs. Given the repeat appearances it's maybe 20% over two years? Those guys are getting 63% of the new hire slots.

With 4000 hrs you're getting into the lower end of the sweet spot. I'd go yesterday.

SiShane put in some serious work. There are thousands of men and women like him applying for the same job. If you are shaking your head at him you are being very myopic in your view of the hiring market. There are some hungry, solid guys gunning for the legacy jobs that you feel are owed to a certain number of hours in the logbook. It doesn't work like that. Don't shake your head but thank him for his service and congratulate him on his success.
