Default Emergency PS travel, bereavement

I'm looking for information pertaining to airline bereavement and grave illness travel for employees positive space. If you could post your airline and any details of limitations, requirements for information, family members eligible, and the scope of who is considered allowable (assuming aunts, uncles, cousins and the like fail to meet the family requirement).
Also the manner in which one is ticketed (assuming very short notice travel) and the global limitations of travel would be helpful.

By employees, do you mean travel industry employees, or those employed directly by the Company?

(1) This information applies to anyone:

Bereavement Fares: The Best Airlines For Compassion Fares | Travelocity Travel Blog

Bereavement Fares | Travel Needs | Delta Air Lines

Delta's reservation line 1-800-221-1212

Reading through what I can find via google, it appears a traveller might do just as well searching last minute fares on the web. Airlines have scaled back bereavement fares as other kinds of discounts have surpassed the discounts given on full fare refundable travel. As I see it, the real benefit of a bereavement fare these days would be the ability to change, or cancel, your travel without penalty.

(2) Delta has enhanced non rev priority codes for Company employees + dependent pass riders. I believe manager approval is required. Most folks are talking to management anyway when something like this occurred.

If you question is with regard to a specific instance, we are sorry to hear of your loss.

Just looking for generic info of various airlines for comparison purposes, I work for Fedex, very little in the way of any travel benefit, let alone bereavement.

No loss yet, mainly planning ahead. I have a wife from Europe with aging parents which I figure to get the call, all too soon, to fly her off on short notice. I would like to engage my employer with suggestions for improvement to our (lack) of travel bereavement benefit. At this point I would be using what ever the airlines (in my case United) provides for the general public. Just curious what the pax industry provides its own.

In the past, when I visited my terminally ill parents, I would get time off with FMLA. Unfortunately, the airline I worked for would revoke my travel benefits during this time. I'd either bid for days off just prior to my FMLA, or get two ZED fares prior to the FMLA. We had a clause in our contract that allowed us to cash out sick time to gain enough credit to meet minimum guarantee during my absence.

As far as bereavement, it was spelled out in our contract. We received 3-5 days (I can't quite remember) off unpaid, unless you had excess sick time (can be used in the same manner as FMLA).

In a nutshell, my former airline did nothing to assist during difficult times. I would refer to your contract or contact your HR department.

I hope this helps.
