Jumpseat to Greece

Jumpseat to Greece
I need to get to Athens, preferably on the jumpseat. My aunt is not doing well and elderly. I want to see her before it's too late.
I used to be able to do JFK-ATH on DAL; but, that is no more.
Any ideas or serious suggestions?

I just checked a one way ticket tomorrow Dec 3 from JFK to ATH and the cheapest was Aeroflot for $597 one way. I know if I had a very close family member hanging on at edge, I'd just plunk down 597 and head out there ASAP. On the way back isn't time critical so then I'd just use ZEDs.

If you transit SVO on Aeroflot, you can transit to another Aeroflot flight without a transit visa. There is passport control, but all they check is that you have a connecting flight and a valid passport. Very easy transfer.

You do not need a Visa for Ukraine. How about taking USAirways to Venice & then a train or flight from there. Or take them to Rome and catch a flight to Greece from there. I don't think USAir does Athens this time of the year. Also, check into WizzAir for cheap intra-Europe travel.

How about jumpseat on a US carrier to a major continent hub and then train/zed to ATH? That should save you a few nickels. Rumor has it that a zed pass and a crew id will possibly get you on a FA or pilot jumpseat within EU. This time of year, seams that loads would be good for a trip like this.

Cannot confirm or deny this rumor but it has worked for me on KLM and Lufthansa a few times within the EU
