USAA alternatives???
Been with them for about 32 years and have heard guys complain of the rate increases. Just looked at my most recent "bill" and then called them. 22% increase this year in homeowners and since '07, my auto and homeowners has TRIPLED, yes TRIPLED!!!!!! Any suggestions on good alternatives? I have home, auto, umbrella, personal floater etc with them. All I could say was WOW when I just spoke to them. Waiting on a callback from a Sup.
Thanks, |
I believe the real story is that because they have opened to so many new members they have diluted the core group of really responsible, low claim people they had. It's been good for business having more people, but it's also caused their payouts to increase. Thus the increase in your rates even though you may not have had claims. Hope you're still getting good service, my wife is an employee, but I guess it's a decision as to whether or not it's worth it to you.

We went elsewhere for insurance 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. I'm now with auto owners (jd power rates them #1 in a bunch of scales) and this years bill actually went down a bit. Each is a better policy now as well.
USAA fought tooth and nail, and I offered for them to match what auto owners was giving me, however they refused. I still have them for checking and savings, but nothing else. |
Liberty Mutual for auto and homeowners, 2 claims over last 5 years. No increases, hassle free. USAA decided the increase of premiums would be worth the number of policy holders that leave. Add on the fact that many pilots think this is some sort of "special insurance company" for them, and never shop around.

Big thread about this in the Military section.
I switched to State Farm 2 years ago for the same reason. After dumping USAA received my Subscribers Savings Account check six months later and that paid for my insurance that year, home and 3 cars. I tried to see USAA they would do something about the rates to keep me and they said no. When I called to cancel then someone tried to see what they could do but I told them it was too late. I like having a local agent, he even calls me to wish me a happy birthday! |
Wow, gotta agree with you guys. My auto insurance has skyrocketed this year, I did move to Florida though. Moving to Florida DOUBLED my auto insurance!
I've gotta look at someone else, GEICO, Auto Owners, someone. |
