SWA Interview w/type

How long have you waited for an interview with SWA with a type through Higher Power?

All my friends have gotten an interview except myself. It has taken a range between a week to 4 weeks for those folks to get an interview. I've had my apps in for 7 weeks now. Can the holidays be a reason why it's taking so long? I've had friends look over my apps and they can't see any mistakes.

If you don't hear anything after the new year, watch for the next open house or Air, Inc. I had a buddy that had the same problem. Went to their open house and asked them directly and the HR lady said she'd look over his online app and get in touch. Two days later, she sent him an email and told him what needed to be corrected on his app, he fixed it, and had an interview in two weeks.

Any idea what needed to be fixed on his application?

C17, Notification for interviews is done by E-mail. Make sure that whoever you use isn't filtering out Southwest as spam, etc.

How much TPIC do you have? I know of a few guys with the HPA type without enough PIC that haven't been called.

I'd also go back over your app top to bottom to make sure ther aren't any mistakes. Otherwise don't sweat it to much, it's December and things slow down in the training departments right now. They may also already have enough guys in the pool for Jan-Feb. Guy I work with that intervied in August (and hired) hasn't even gone to class yet.

If you meet minimums as an Air Force pilot, and have a type rating, I would think that they would call you right away, like within a month. That has been the recent experience at Luke.

I had no type and got called after 6 mos. Yes, they do advise you with an e-mail that tells you what dates are available and asks you to call them back.

Double check your online app. I know more than one person (myself included) who had their education section drop out of the application, so it looked like we'd never been to college, yet we were USAF aviators. This may have held up my interview. I was actually notified by SWA via e-mail that something looked wrong with my app. I corrected it and was called two months later.

Good Luck

One month for the call, another for the interview, another for the no thanks lettter. So, basically, a 3 month process.

That would be me. Only 1000 FW PIC. I have another 600 RW PIC but SWA doesn't count helo time....

I'm better off where I've ended up anyway...not flying for more than twice the money, and I get to go home every night.

He had time in a couple of airplanes with different airlines. On the app it asks the dates that you flew the plane beginning and ending. He just put the date he started flying the plane for beginning and then the last time he flew it for the ending. Kind of made it look like he owned his own Saab 340 while he was flying corporate in between the two dates.

Instead they wanted him to put the Saab down twice. Once beginning and ending with his employment at Mesaba, then again for while he was at Colgan.

Hope that wasn't too confusing???

Not at all. I have filled out the online application for SWA myself and know exactly what you are saying. Thank you.

I have at least all the required mins. Just a little frustrating when all your buddies get called and then go to their interview, while you're still waiting for the call. So far my almost $9k for my 737 type through Higher power ain't paying off. Hopefully once the holidays are over, i'll get the call. Have my finger crossed.

C17MooseDriver,

I hope you opted to buy into and use your GI bill.

C17MooseDriver 12-26-2006 10:13 AM

No GI bill for me. I was considered a scholarship cadet, so I had to pay out of pocket.

Hey Moose,

I got the type at Higher Power back in Oct. 2005. There were nine of us in class. I just got the call for an interview; going in Jan. The first guy to get interviewed in my class was my training partner ( corp. guy flying a Challenger, and a great guy, too). He went in Dec. 2005. Didn't get hired. The next two guys to go a few months later were regional guys flying the RJ. One got hired, the other didn't. Next was a NWA guy (not furloughed), he went in the middle of summer 2006; didn't get hired. I'm not sure about the rest of the guys in my class. All were civilian and all were real stand-up guys. Like everyone else, I don't know what sets one person apart from the other. My guess, though, is that with so much hiring going on indefinitly, you most likely will here something eventually. Good luck and don't give up. It's a phenominal place to work.....Jetdrivr

Moose,
I had my application on-line for about 9 months before I was called. However, I was emailed within 3 days after I updated my app with the 737 type rating. I went to the open house and found out that my application was being overlooked because of the way I listed my duty history in the AF. I think someone else wrote this but make sure you are checking your junk folder for emails. All I got was a simple email asking if I was still interested in an interview. If it went to my junk folder I would have never known about the possibility.

jetpilot4u 12-31-2006 07:52 AM

I'm not sure if this was said before...

But check your duty history with the USAF and list all your duty stations. Don't just list that you were in the AF from 199X to 200X. You have to list every station and every supervisor that you worked for. They want to know pretty much your whole employment history. Be sure to scrub your application to include your driving record, etc... When I was interviewed, I had to make a change because I overlooked something. Good Luck!

SamFoxpilot 02-09-2007 07:07 AM

Ditto what everyone else is saying....
1) Put as much detail in work history as possible.
2) Update hours once a month
3) If you know someone @ SWA, ask them to check w/People dept to see if your app is in system and if there are any problems.

C17MooseDriver 02-11-2007 07:27 PM

Thanks. I just interviewed with them this past week. I guess there really wasn't a problem with my application. Just never got the call for some reason. I did call their People Department and they said my application was fine.

Have my fingers crossed!

So how long did it take for you to get your interview after being typed at Higher Power? Also, how were you notified for the interview? Thanks

hallfg3 02-12-2007 02:54 PM

9999,
I was called for an interview about 6 weeks after my 737 type from Higher Power. I think that right now they are calling people that have availability of June 07 or earlier. If you have that and a type, you should expect a call pretty soon. Good luck!

9999 02-12-2007 03:45 PM

Great news, that is the boat I am in. Thank you.

HuronIP 02-12-2007 06:26 PM

FWIW, I got an email last week to setup an interview in March. I’m not available until October.

9999 02-12-2007 06:41 PM

If you don't mind me asking, how long has it been between the Higher Power type and your interview e-mail? Thanks

I'm not sure if you were referring to my post, but I sent you a PM.

LOBO 02-12-2007 07:23 PM

Another thing to take into consideration is SWA usually looks at you for an interview if you qualify around six months away from your availability date

9999 02-13-2007 08:16 AM

Thanks for the e-mail. I have replied.
