Turbine PIC
Now I know this has been asked many a time before but it is a moving target. At this time and say two years ahead, do you think Turbine PIC time is the better door opening ticket or do you think a pilot with high SIC time ~ 6000 + A320 or heavy time is just as competitive at US,AA , UA, and DL?

I think it is hard to say. I will pass what someone once said to me. It is more important to get the 1000 PIC. The reasoning behind his thoughts, what happens when your dream airline goes away and now everyone is requiring the 1000 PIC, do you want to go back to a regional? Don't think it will happen? Neither the Eastern pilots.

The whole idea for the PIC time is proven/demonstrated leadership and decision making. If you do not have manager/chief pilot/other decision maker role on your resume then the PIC time is golden.
There is no "heavy time" fields on the applications....Turbine time is turbine time. That is why just as many F16 guys get picked as KC-135 guys (as an example). |

However, slight clarification is in order. If the 135 guy is a reserve/guard "copilot" with no AC time and has another job that gets him to meet the mins it's really not a valid "peer comparison" to the single seat pilot. I think TPIC is important- but who you know, networking is more important. If you can meet someone with the right connections you can get an interview over somebody with 1000 TPIC . It's the game- play it.

The difference I've seen now are the friends of mine with Military experience have gotten multiple offers, while us pure civilians are sitting on the sidelines. Fair or not that's the reality. Had I known that was the case I would have pursued the military more. |
How is a military guy with 1200 TPIC and 1700 TT looking these days?

I know a guy - 2600 TT, 1000 fighter, dad's a well liked w/b CA, several w/b CA recommendations to include former CP's and CKA, job fair/face to face box checked and he hasn't heard 'boo'.
And guys have gotten hired who havn't known anyone (congrats to them!). So what's the magic solution?????? |

Also, reading multiple boards, those times, even for mil are a little low unless there's other areas you're stronger in. IE; networking and additional boxes checked. I know........I know........, SOMEONE is gonna chime in with "well, I know so and so and they got hired without (insert whatever one wishes here)!!!!!! Good for them, if it wasn't pure luck of the draw there's usually something that wasn't mentioned. |
