Driving to work - comfortable distance?

Anyone who drives 200 miles or more to base care to comment?

I'd take it over a Cr200 jumpseat anytime

Used to drive 150 miles at my first airline and then about 200 or so at my second. It was never bad bidding four - four day trips a month. I agree it's much better than jump seating. I never had to wait for my car or got booted out of the driver seat. It was a great time to reflect and chill after a trip.

220 miles from my driveway to the employee lot at my base. Under three hours all on interstate highway. I prefer it to flying because I can dictate my own schedule to arrive in base at a time convenient for me. The time required is just about a wash compared to jump seating when you consider showing at the local airport an hour before departure time, actual flight time etc. Having a car in base if you are on reserve or stuck between pairings: priceless. Also, many trips terminate in base long after the last available jump seat home, so I can drive rather than waiting til the following morning for the first flight out. The downside of course is 4 bucks a gallon for gas....

BTW, for the times I do jump seat to and from work, many thanks to the great men and women of SWA who have been unfailingly accommodating and welcoming.

I was looking at doing one that would be 320 miles and it goes through a mountain pass. It would be for international flying so worse case twice a month. Still don't know if I'd grow to hate it. I know I hate jumpseating. Seems like I'd be happier in my own car and on my own timeline.

Yep. Or any seat on a CRJ200 for that matter. Hell is you and 49 other lost souls in a CRJ in August with an APU on MEL and your destination ground stopped -- and you've pushed.

I had a 175 mile drive for 4 years. I didn't mind it much, and it definitely beats commuting on an airplane.

When it becomes available I will be driving Indianapolis to ORD.... Much rather control my day then hope for an open seat.
