In addition for working for a pretty good airline, you might be lucky enough to fly with the infamous calcapt...

How far in advance of your availability date will CAL hire? And will they hire w/ out an internal rec?

I'm selling internal recommendations for $500 per person.

Actually, my recommendation would see that you never get hired. It's worthless!

Seriously, Good luck to all who are applying and interviewing. They need pilots in all aircraft and I heard a rumor (and I repeat that it's just a rumor) that a class or two of new hires will go straight to the 777 because the vacancies (about 30) were not filled in the last bid. Probably because no one wants to be a career reserve relief officer that never flys and go to the simulator every few months to stay current. Or maybe it the 7 destinations the 777 flys to like Tel Aviv and New Dehli. I prefer not to do 15 hours flights myself; 8 is enough.

They generally interview within 30 days of your availability date but will generally not extend a class offer until near or at your availability date. Too many guys/gals have gone through the process only to be not available when offered employment. Chances are slim but possible without an internal recommendation. I would do some networking if you are seriously considering CAL.

What do you need once you get the call for the interview: DD214, college transcripts, etc... or?????

- I've had my stuff in with CAL for about a year without a recommendation letter.
- Met Capt Jost (sp) at AirInc.

- no calls yet!!

That gets you put in the second pile. What will get you an interview within a month is having a pilot go in to the CP's or Fleet Manager's office with your resume. They will pull up your app and then they will talk about you. If he agrees with the pilots assesment then they will put you on the short list. My buddy did it for me last week, and if the guy likes what he sees I should have an interview within a month. It is the MCI Friends and Family plan.

I would not put any time lines w/ regard to the CAL interview EXCEPT if you are a former CAL intern or are some immediate relative of a pilot or manager. Good luck.

That rumor has some merit to it.
