With the utmost solemnity, I dedicate this post to all the American veterans who cannot be and/or never have been remembered by name...The Unknowns...especially those that had no family or close friends to remember and miss them. Also to all those KIA/MIA whose actions were worthy of high decoration and acclaim but for whom whatever circumstance(s) made bereft a recognition and record of their heroism, valor, and sacrifice.
For them, and for all those who paid the ultimate price in service to our beloved country, and through that service to me and my family both past and present, I humbly pray with a deeply sincere heart:
May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and grant everlasting peace unto you. Amen.
Excerpt of General Orders No.11, WASHINGTON, D.C., May 5, 1868:
"We (shall) guard their graves with sacred vigilance. All that the consecrated wealth and taste of the nation can add to their adornment and security is but a fitting tribute to the memory of her slain defenders. Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such hallowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.
If other eyes grow dull, other hands slack, and other hearts cold in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light and warmth of life remain to us.
Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they (served)."
In closing, I offer this to those who wonder about their countrymen today: We shall not forget, and we shall not fail to remember. Ever. Here is proof of that, so timely in this present age and for the weekend ahead...

Several squadrons I've been in have used this toast to honor men like these:
Here's a toast to those who've gone before,
Who've given their lives in both peace and war,
Defending the freedom others take for granted.
May we never forgot to toast those who can no longer toast with us.
Finally, take a moment to read the following:
