Great Uncle Alford, stepped out of his tank in France when a shell landed nearby blasting a tree on him. Buried in Ft. Snelling.
If you've ever wondered what all those old buildings are at the end of 30R in MSP that's part of Ft. Snelling. The Vets cemetery is on the the south side of 30L. Put down your phone and look over that way when your in the hotel shuttle, you will see the white crosses. The entire airport is built on old Ft. Snelling. |
Just wanted to wish everyone a happy Memorial Day..and remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country during the last year. Please mention those you'd like to offer a toast to this weekend.

TORQE 62. Air Force C-130 lost on October 2, 2015 in Afghanistan.
6 crewmembers, 5 passengers, and 2 on the ground. |
Not recent, but remembering my relatives who've died in both world wars, a WWI infantryman who died in Flander's Fields, and a WWII bomber pilot shot down over Holland eventually crashing into the sea. Never met them but the family always remembered their sacrifice.
|
I'll add Darren Hidalgo, John Runkle, Dimitri Del Castillo, and Tim Steele. All USMA '09 and all killed in Afghanistan.
|
Captain Scott Speicher, Navy flier, the first combat casualty in the Iraq war. Scott and I were childhood friends.

As Memorial Day Weekend approaches and we kick-off the summer..please remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Please add the names of those we have lost in the last year so we can raise a toast...CG
