New Delta 757 Service Starts Today
KINY Radio - The Juneau Daily News
Delta's inaugural flight in the Capital City
Back in December, Delta Airlines announced that it would reinstate seasonal service to Juneau. They fly in Thursday.
Airport manager Patty deLaBruere says they arrive in Juneau around 8:49 PM Thursday. Mayor Merril Sanford and other officials will be at the ceremony at the airport at that time. They will be accepting a check from Delta for $10,000. Mike Medeiros with Delta was a speaker at a CBJ Assembly meeting recently, where many citizens spoke on the need to keep Augustus Brown Pool open. That's when he surprised the crowd with Delta's donation.
Delta will be flying Boeing 757's in and out of Juneau International Airport. These planes have doors five feet higher than those on Alaska Airlines’ 737's and with the airport equipped for the smaller planes, prep work included the purchase of an updated jet bridge. It cost the airport $177,000, including installation, but they saved money buying a used one. A new jet bridge and installation would have cost over $1 million.
JIA is hoping to be reimbursed by the FAA for the jet bridge project. "It’s not set up to turn a profit.", deLaBruere said.
An additional baggage scanning machine has also been secured. Plus the airport has been working to expand the ticket counter and create more office space for Delta.
There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning around 5:00 A.M. as the first flight out leaves at 6:00 A.M.
Delta is the first new airline JIA has seen in almost 20 years. Alaska Airlines has serviced Juneau since the 1930s. Delta flew in and out of Juneau in the past but pulled out in 1997.

My Turn: Support Delta to ensure cheaper Juneau airfare | Juneau Empire - Alaska's Capital City Online Newspaper
My Turn: Support Delta to ensure cheaper Juneau airfare
...Before Delta announced it was resuming service to Juneau, the typical round-trip coach class airfare to Seattle on Alaska Airlines was $560. This summer, on most days, both airlines are offering round-trip tickets for less than $244. That is more than a 56 percent reduction from typical prices last summer....
...If anyone doubts that round-trip fares will return to recent high rates if Delta discontinues service to Juneau, consider that round-trip coach fares between Juneau and Seattle in September 2014 are now priced at $568. That coincides with Delta ending its seasonal service this year.

Well said Stu!
I woke this morning to find the thread that I stated yesterday locked. I have no idea why, except maybe the mods don't like it when the sons of Delta pilot's talk about the unsanitary conditions of their underwear.
You are correct, there really is nothing of any value on this board anymore. The level of immaturity is pretty shocking some times. I remember web boards on aviation 10 -12 years ago that were really cool. Guys would have good discussions, there would be interview tips / gouges, cool pictures of unusual places. Now it's just seems like kids, grade school or early teens, disrespectful, immature and crude.
Well to stay on point. It looks like a good weather day in JNU. Delta should do just fine. I fly through JNU 4 or 5 times next month, maybe I'll get to have a round with a Delta crew at the Hanger.
Somebody said something about Delta using "line pilots" in the 737 next summer. Do I take that to mean that this summer's flying is being done by check airmen / instructors / management in the 757 ? Just curious...

Just checked the crew and it looks as though they are going to use both LCA (Line Check Airmen) for the CA position and AQFO (Air Route Qualification FO) for the First Officer position.
It also looks as though they have constructed their rotations to allow for >30 hour rest out of both SEA and JNU. I'm sure this is to protect the schedule with the startup service.

Yes. The FAA mandated that any pilot flying to JNU had to fly at least one approach in the sim prior to going there. It was easier to just check out a handful of pilots who will fly the flight initially, and gives them time to qualify the 737 drivers this winter during CQ. The trip is built into NYC and I believe SLC 757 rotations. The line pilot flies into SEA, lays over for the duration of the JNU flying, and picks up the balance of the flying, while getting paid the credit time. Who doesn't want a 30+ layover in SEA?

Historic low fares under $200 roundtrip to Seattle as air carriers battle | Alaska Dispatch
Everybody has spring fever in Alaska, including the airlines that fly north from the Lower 48. As the days get longer, airlines like JetBlue, American, Frontier, Air Canada, Sun Country, Condor and Icelandair bring travelers from around the world to the Great Land.
Usually, intrepid Alaskans can catch some great deals on the back haul to destinations far and wide. But this year is different, due to the cat fight between Delta and Alaska Airlines. That has led to historic low fares from both Fairbanks and Juno. Let’s review:

In-state airfares dip as Alaska summer approaches
Finally, Fairbanks and Juneau get cheap airfares, too
Delta’s new flights from Fairbanks and Juneau are a big threat to Alaska’s monopoly on air travel options. Accordingly, Alaska Airlines is offering double miles for all Club 49 members. In fact, Delta is running a double miles promotion as well -- but only for Washington state residents.
Speaking of Club 49, there are some great deals between Anchorage and Kodiak, just $200 roundtrip during the month of June. You must purchase by Thursday, May 15.
