EVERETT, Wash. -- A New York City company has made an offer to build a new terminal for commercial flights at Paine Field in Everett.
Propeller Airports has submitted a letter of intent to county officials for a two-gate terminal, and says two airlines have serious interest in beginning service to regional destinations.
The move clears, perhaps, the biggest hurdle yet for advocates of commercial flight in Snohomish County.
The proposal calls for Propeller Airports to pay for the cost of constructing a terminal and parking amenities, while paying rent to Snohomish County.

The Federal Aviation Administration approved commercial passenger flights from Paine Field in 2012, potentially transforming the general-aviation airport into a competitor to Sea-Tac Airport. The FAA environmental study allows for four weekly flights by Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air and 14 weekly flights by Alaska Airlines.

Propeller would not confirm if Allegiant or Alaska were among those still interested in Everett. Alaska has said it is no longer considering commercial flights from Paine Field.
Opponents to commercial flights at Paine Field are set to argue their case before a panel of judges at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday. The city of Mukilteo is leading the charge against the FAA study that concluded that noise, traffic and pollution from commercial jets would not harm nearby communities.
County council members will be next to consider the new proposal. It could be months before an official vote is scheduled.

Secondary fields are where it's at. Just look at the "Laguardia of the South" just a short walk north west from KATL. Silver Comet baby! If you build it, they WILL come.

It would be nice to have something in between Bellingham and Seatac, but Paine is pretty crowded already with Boeing and GA. I can't see the feasibility of doing anything other than charter out of there.

Was it Mid America Airport that they built adjacent to Scott AFB east of St Louis? I remember flying a Herk to the shiny new terminal with I think 4 jetways back in the late 90s. It was gonna provide relief to Lambert. Any commercial traffic there yet?

I have seen cargo stuff over there, but yeah...typical congressional pet project. Didn't Allegiant fly out of there for a while?

I live in Mukilteo and have been to the city meetings. Generally, I think the locals are just worried that once the door is open to 4 allegant and 14 horizon/Alaska flight it'll be much more difficult to stop expantion later on.

A lot of people were also worried about turbo prop noise and their property values, which didn't make any sense. That dash is quieter than most of the piston AC flying out of PAE. The MD on the other hand... Even as someone who would enjoy some service at PAE, I'm still a little concerned as a home owner. Even if it's due to irrational fears of my neighbors.

I love the Puget Sound and wouldn't want to see it destroyed in the name of modern advancement, but perhaps it's time to think like Hong Kong or Japan and build a brand new airport on reclaimed land out in the water and connected by rail, a new freeway into Seattle and even by boats and cruise ships.

And maybe a tunnel? ;)

Well we have a tunnel. It's a thousand feet long and ends up at the back end of a broken machine named Bertha. Who needs the last 9000 feet?

I used to live there. It would take four decades and eleventy trillion dollars to get that project off the ground in the PNW. Forget it. I love that place too, but big transportation projects or the lack thereof are keeping it from being a really nice place to live and work.

Nope. Still nada at Mid-America. They used to have 1 or 2 flights a day, but they couldn't fill the seats, so the routes dried up. They also used to have one flight a day for flowers, but that has dried up too. The only regular business I have seen do anything out of Mid-America over the past year or two is Boeing F-18 traffic for TCTO upgrades.

Or use Vashon Island. It is perfectly situated to be an airport for both sides of the sound. :D
