It's true. I wear pajamas to work. I've been spoiled by it too... but they're at least functional. I've got steel toed boots, a pocket for notebooks and checklists, a pocket for my leatherman, a pocket for my flashlight, spots for 2 pens, a pocket for my car keys, one for my wallet and cover, one for my cell phone, one for my sunglasses, and one for my passport and the little cloth to clean my sunglasses. If I had a butt-flap, it would be the perfect pilot onesie. :D

The whole reason we wear the uninform is for public image. I think hats should be part of the uniform because it's always been a part of it from past and set a huge impression as a child.

The public has moved on. Why can't we?

Take a cop for example. If you hear "freeze police!" And you look and there is some hot looking girl pointing a gun at you in a cheerleader outfit.

Wow--I have this exact recurring dream....

However, as Juice said, it's not going to make the gate agents more professional, the rampers won't work harder, the passengers won't stop complaining about the price of their ticket and management CERTAINLY won't treat you better because you wear a hat.

wow, you are so beaten that you have no self esteem or personal pride? I know the regionals suck, but are you that miserable? Really?

I always liked wearing my green (or sometimes tan) pajamas to work, except when it was really hot and humid...those things don't breathe well.

Personally, I'm a jacket kind of guy, unless it's really hot, but most of the time I wind up bringing it anyway. I think wearing the jacket just looks a little more professional, plus after I get up from sitting for 4-5 hours, it hides all the wrinkles in my shirt. I have a hat but I don't wear it often...I think I look like a bus driver in it.

So do a lot of professional athletes that make millions of dollars. What's your point? The whole thing about uniforms being tied to how much we make is so out to lunch anyway that it has transcended the absurd.

Funny that you mention that. There were "butt flaps" being tested in the ranks about 1981. One of the more idiotic things i had ever seen.
Obviously they did not catch on.

Completely agree! As a young child in the airport I saw all the pilots wear hats. To kids it makes a special impression and, at that time, future aviators it sets a standard.

To adults, get Chuck Yeager to walk on the plane in flamingo shorts/t-shirt, unshaven and say "I'm your pilot". People would initially laugh. They see him go to the flight deck they will get up and leave! Do the same with a well dressed, uniformed, clean cut person without a pilot's license and they will assume he is the pilot and at least a good enough one to fly the plane. He doesn't even have to say "I'm your pilot". People will just assume he is all the while he can't tell you where the brakes are.

If you dress the part and dress to impress people will take you seriously. If it is not needed for us to look to impress then why dress up for an interview? Studies in psychology have proven our outward image is very important to those around us. It's part of the nonverbal communication.

The video of the FedEx pilots picketing in ANC on the cargo forum features just about every different uniform configuration imaginable: blazers, leather jackets, overcoats, shirtsleeves, hats, no hats. I think the pilots wearing the blazers with the hats look the sharpest and most professional.

Call me old-fashioned, but I really love the hat and it turns my head every time! Chicks dig the hat!
