Default Any US pilots jumpseat on AC from Europe?

I'm contemplating using Air Canada to jumpseat from Europe to YYZ and then onward. Can anyone share his experience with this?

This ALWAYS needs to be clarified;

You ARE talking using the JS privilege to occupy a vacant seat in the back, correct? Unless something has changed, AC does (or DID) allow pilots to do that on int'l. AGAIN, unless something has changed. Contact your JS rep for the specific procedures.

Took them once a couple of years ago FRA-YUL. Just list prior to arriving at the airport and if you can pick up a jumpseat form from AC before leaving the US. They can be hard to come by in Europe and they won't allow you on without it. Jumpseat procedures may have changed though, ask an AC gate agent.

Call this number to list yourself. You can't do it at the gate. Hold times are usually an hour or so.

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if there was more to it than what is supplied on the Alpa jumpseat page, such as having a form handy. That was a problem for me years back when I used them.

I am already in Europe, so if things fall apart with my original plan and I do end up trying for them, I will just have to get lucky with the form.

Just call the 800 number and make your listing, pay any taxes, they will give you a confirmation number.

Use that number to check in at the airport. PM me if you need loads.

Dating a flight attendant from your target airline ups your chances of being offered the JS on a foreign carrier exponentially

A super cool Lufthansa Cptn stuck me in the JS of a completely full A340-600 several months ago. I was ZED faring and the gate agent asked him if he'd be okay with sticking me in the JS to get me on. Also, one of the FA's non-aviation husbands sat in the cockpit as well as he was accompanying her to her long overnight. What a cool *** crew!

My return from Europe ended up being on Lufthansa via the jumpseat. They had cleared all standbys and I was left standing. The gate agent then asked if I was a pilot or flight attendant. She made a phone call and then handed me a "jump" ticket.

The difference for me on this flight was that all economy seats were full, but they had at least one business seat they wouldn't clear me into. Once on board with my jumpseat ticket, they swapped someone into business and I took his seat in economy. I'm not sure who the lucky bum was who got the last minute swap into what I was hoping to be my seat in business, but at that point, I was just happy to be headed home.

I have a friend who he and his wife swapped between the flight attendant rest seats and their jumpseats on an all-night transatlantic flight.

When I made it to Europe I had a quick chat with an LH captain about the jumpseat. He told me the flight attendant jumpseat was captain's discretion, but flight deck was not allowed, but perhaps they have more leeway for making exceptions, such as for flight attendant husbands.
