You are incorrect. The TSA does random gate checks. If you are found out of uniform at the gate with liquids or other banned items you will get violated. You have to be in uniform for the flight. Several flight attendants and even a few pilots have been caught at my airline.
Delta requires that you only wear the uniform to and from work or while working. I think most airlines have that in their FOM.

Any person inside security can purchase liquids, including alcohol, once they're past the checkpoint. Are you saying a crew member will get some sort of TSA violation for "liquids" if they're searched at the gate out of uniform?

I'm almost 100% certain he's incorrect. Many Delta pilots believe all the extra requirements placed upon them in their FOM are TSA requirements when in fact they are solely edicts from Delta management. For example, they can't wear their uniform and access KCM to non rev (not work related), whereas most airlines have no policy like this (and neither does TSA). It's important in these discussions to differentiate between TSA requirements and company specific policies.

Exactly. I'm surprised Delta doesn't require us to be in uniform while commuting to work in our car. Don't even get into the "company business" requirements that are different depending on what base you are in.
