Airline pilot, #4 stressful job of 2014?

Most Stressful Jobs for 2014

I have heard this going around so did some googling. Low & behold, airline pilot was the #4 most stressful job of 2014. I Was at first surprised, but then thought how "defensive" this profession has become in regards to covering our own asses in everything we do. Could this be the source of stress? Or is it due to all the pay cuts & furloughs over the last 13 years? What say you?

Depends on your position on the seniority list.

In the past it has been reported that any job where you have to maintain a schedule throughout the day is one source of stress.

Depends where on the planet the job is located... management.... crewmembers.... QoL... and other usual BS. Well at the end of the day, employees have the right to fire their employers when there is so much consternation.

Wouldn't it be wise for one to find another profession should they feel the job stressful?

Oh yeah... I was stressed out a couple of times... Once when their was no Sprite on one flight:rolleyes:. Oh yeah... No cognac on a transcon DAL flight... By the grace of the Sky Gods, I survuved both traumatic events:).

I have to say that my career in 2014 was the source of zero stress....!

It all depends I would say...., I have friends my same age that due to stress in other careers look 10 years older than me.

I agree. I couldn't imagine a less stressful job. No deadlines, no homework, just show up and fly airplanes and collect paycheck.

It's more stressful driving through downtown Atlanta, unless, "she" is your A-line!

Stress can sometimes be defined as change. And if there's one thing that definitely contributes to the stress of an airline (sorry Air Line) pilot, it's change. We have different schedules every month. Every flight is different. Our career is constantly under attack from dumb legislators, foreign interests, external political forces and a multitude of other factors that make it difficult to know where we'll be in 5 years.

That's why this job is really only worth it when you're near the top of the pay scale. I can't imagine doing it at regional pay levels for a career.

I used to be a fighter crew chief. So far for the past 7 years, flying 121 has been the easiest job ever.
