The rest of us will get our furloughs extended by 5 years.

Furlough is ONE of the words we will all be seeing extended by five years. How about more:
Reserve
Commuting
Time in a crash pad
Time at a regional airline
Time as FO
Time on smaller equipment making less money
Crappy contracts because there is a higher supply of pilots

You name it. Hopefully age 60 does not change for the benefit of all pilots under the age of 55.
We don't want to work longer just to earn the same amount of money

I think that it is what they feel they need to do for the ones who lost all of their retirement.

i guess that is the main problem...relying on a company pension for retirement...don't do it...fund your own...

Many of the airline guys (majors) that I have talked to that are around 54-58 are still planning on retiring around 60 maybe 61. The ones that can afford to do it financially are usually sick of the job at 60 and are ready to leave. Again notice I said the ones that can afford to do it. It will be interesting to see just how many stay the whole five years.

Yeah, uh huh, sure. That's what they say now. It's like the "mass exodus" that was expected from the over 60 FEs at UPS after the contract was done. Don't believe it till you see it. I don't think it's gonna happen.

Balderdash,
I will believe it when I see it.
Can't think the Majors want to keep paying
those old farts for another 5 years.

New help is always cheaper than the old people.

Waiting to be proven wrong

But with most people at 12 year pay on the CA side at the majors, it about equals the cost of training a new hire.

I forgot to add......it was mostly Southwest guys I had talked to.

I thought it was Southwest that was one of the bigger proponents of this.
