Default SWA no longer requires 737 type rating

It's official. The VP of Flight Ops just announced that effective immediately SWA pilot applicants will not be required to have a 737 type rating for the interview and WILL NOT be required to obtain one prior to beginning class. All new SWA pilots will receive their 737 type rating during their AQP training program as new hires.
VP cited increased pilot demand and the fact that they were excluding highly qualified candidates by having that requirement.

Well, none of the aircraft in the new livery say 'Free bags fly here', do I would think it is just a matter of time.

Are current upgrades still in the ten year range? Is it trending higher or lower?

At least 10 I've heard more like 15. Of corse that changes constantly. Just plan on most of your career in the RT seat (which is fine as long as the QOL is good).

Still in affect, and probably will be for quite some time.
