SW Pilots Union join Mideast fight

Thank you for joining in guys and gals.

"Emirates, Qatar and Etihad deny the accusations and say they will prove it. Emirates President Tim Clark said he will demand an apology from the airlines. "
Hope he holds his breath.

Southwest Airlines pilots union joins fight against Emirates, Qatar, Etihad - Dallas Business Journal

Pilots from Southwest Airlines’ union have joined the fight against Mideast Gulf airlines, the Partnership for Open & Fair Skies announced Thursday.

The Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association joined the coalition led by American Airlines (Nasdaq: AAL), Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) and United Airlines against Etihad Airways, Emirates and Qatar Airways.
“These government-owned Gulf carriers are not playing by the rules their governments agreed to when they signed Open Skies agreements with the U.S.,” Capt. Paul Jackson, SWPA president, said in a statement. “The evidence is too overwhelming and the airline industry is too important to our country for the U.S. government not to take action.”

The U.S. airlines accuse three Mideast airlines, all of which fly out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, of taking billions in subsidies from the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
The fight started in March when the three U.S. legacy carriers published a massive report that accusing the airlines of getting a combined $42 billion in subsidies, fuel contracts and no-interest loans.

Emirates, Qatar and Etihad deny the accusations and say they will prove it. Emirates President Tim Clark said he will demand an apology from the airlines. They say the U.S. legacy carriers' bankruptcy, bailouts and other perks helped put them in their current position.

You know what's really sad?

The apathy of most of the pilots in the US Airline Industry.

ALPA put out a "Call to Action" email last month concerning the above. Out of more than 50,000 ALPA Pilots, only around 12,000 took the one minute out of their busy lives to respond to that Call to Action.

All they had to do was to click on a link in the email to send a letter to their Congressmen and Senators, but I guess they were too busy, or just don't care if the US Airline Industry goes the way of the Cruise Ship Industry.

Maybe we can all get a job at Emirates after we get furloughed from US Carriers.

I realize I'm preaching to the choir by posting here. If you are reading this, you are probably one of the 12,000 who did take the time to respond to the call, but talk to your buds next time you go to work, ask them if they responded.

If they say no, ask them if they have their app in with Emirates.

I took the time to send the call to action and I encourage those that have not to do so!!

It may be futile but it's better than doing nothing.
