David Clark PRO-X headset issues with B737NG?

Hello 737 drivers...does anyone have the David Clark PRO-X active noise cancelling headset that they are using on the 737NG? More specifically, does it work in the world's loudest jet cockpit with respect to impedance? I have heard several guys say their headset won't work in the 737 cockpit due to said impedance issues. Does anyone have a good recommendation for what headset works well in the 737? Many thanks in advance to everyone, my hearing won't last much longer if I don't start using something better than earplugs!

I use a Telex 850. Had to send it back to the factory to get it to work, but all good now

Klsytakesit 04-30-2015 06:58 AM

I have been using it in all models of the 737 since it came out....Have had no issues at all.....Blue tooth works awesome as well....Have used Dave Clarks since 1979....These are the best yet.....2 double A bats last about a week

Do you have to use batteries on the Telex 850? It seems like you would on the DC, but not the Telex....

No batteries in the Telex 850.

Why not post your reply here? Is this security sensitive information? Some other people may have the same question and would like to know the answer.

Thought you were asking about Dave Clark....No idea about that Telex

Chomeur 05-01-2015 02:53 AM

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it! I was asking about the DC's, because my old DC was indestructible and great quality. However, I did not know they also require batteries then found out the Telex models do not require them. My trips tend to be multi-day, odd hour trips so I'd have to keep extra batteries around, if I don't lose them...

DC Pro X

I have had them about 2 months. They work great in -300's and NG's. I use some radio shack rechargeable AA and they last about 6 working days. My only complaint is that at night the power on indicator is a very bright flashing light.

Bought the a Telex 850 and returned them after 1 trip. Bought the DC's next. MUCH better. They work great. I have had 2 planes where I got some loud feedback when I tried to transmit. My FO had the Bose/Uflymike on the last plane this happened on and I swapped headsets with him and sure enough, I could transmit with his just fine so it wasn't a radio issue per se. But 99% of the time the DC's work very well.

Klsytakesit 05-01-2015 03:59 PM

Took a black Sharpie to that light.....no prob now....I have had a couple of issues with uflymike and clarity.....Went away when the fo unplugged their headsets.....2 1/2 yrs with no problems......batteries last so long I forget about them and the headset is quiet when it is depowered anyway

Can anyone compare the DC Pro to the QC-15?

I used some electrical tape over them, the Sharpie idea is good too.

I am currently using Lightspeed Zulu 2's (not in a 737 but a E175 which is also loud) and I switched to the Energizer rechargeable batteries about a year and a half ago. I carry the charging pack along with me. Batteries usually last at least 2 weeks worth of flying. Best $20 I ever spent.

Have had/used my Ufly for 8 years now. Swapped the old QC's for the new one at SEA-TAC, cost $100. But my Ufly has been perfect. Used in Lear, KA350, 737-4,7,8,9, A320, B-757/767 and not an issue w/ any. When I get closer to the panel it makes a louder buzz, but other than that no issues. Will continue until it dies then look @ DC. Wish Bose would make a true lightweight set.

Baja.

BTW - What are people using in the PuppyDog? Is it as quiet as the 88/90?

skypine27 05-04-2015 08:16 AM

I've used the Telex 850 ANR for nearly 10 years now in an Airbus and now 757. It doesn't use batteries, it gets its ANR power from the normal plugs.

I don't know how much louder a 737 is than a 757 but I would think it would work fine.

Is it as quiet as a Bose + the u-fly mic? Nope. Absolutely not. But I found the whole u-fly setup horrible when in the right seat (I'm sure it would work better in the left)

I've also used the non ANR Telex 850. It pretty much sucks. There is a big difference between the perceived quietness between the two models. But even so, I nearly always ditch the headset above 18

Just finished my first trip with my new DC PRO-X headset (I have been using an old school DC headset up until now). I flew a 400 several legs as well as an 800. I like the PRO-X, lightweight and nice sound. I will get a little piece of electrical tape to cover the light, as well as a clip to attach the cord so it doesn't just hang down, putting weight on the plugs.

What's w/ the 'light?' Is it a power light on the side of the Bose? Is it that bothersome?

Baja.

On the Bose the light can be annoying at night.

Don't know about the Bose but on the DC, it is a bright'ish light that was a little annoying at night.

I've been using the DC X-PRO for a year now on 737ng without a problem. No noises of any kind.

I use energizer rechargeable batteries also, work like a charm for weeks. Good point about the tape/sharpie trick to take care of the light, will try it tonight.

David Clark headsets have a "Dark Mode" to turn off LEDs on Battery Box for night flying. I understand that not many know about it.

The link attached below should take you to a PDF file that includes the step by step process on page 7.

The Bose have that too, just double push the power button. Although it just dims the light

It's a newer feature. Figured that out when I tried it on my year oldish pair and it wouldn't work. Called DC, they had me check my version and said I could send mine in for an update to get it if I desired.
