Default Imposter Pilot in Jetway

Something tells me this guy wasn't doing it for the chicks.

Oh, and he wasn't caught.

LAX police search for man dressed as pilot near JetBlue flight - LA Times

New York-bound flight cleared after LAX police search for man dressed as pilot near JetBlue plane

LAX
Los Angeles International Airport police were looking for a man reportedly dressed as a commercial airline pilot who disappeared on the jetway of a New York-bound flight Thursday morning, authorities said.

The incident happened about 6 a.m. in the bridge between Gate 31B at LAX’s Terminal 3 and a JetBlue aircraft preparing to take off to JFK airport in New York, airport officials said.

Checked luggage already was loaded, and passengers were preparing to board when an LAX employee encountered a man dressed as a pilot in the jetway, the hallway that corrals passengers onto the plane, LAX police Officer Rob Pedregon said.

The two exchanged pleasantries, but nothing memorable, Pedregon said. The uniformed person, who was not authorized to be there, was last seen in that area between the terminal and the aircraft, he said.

It didn’t seem suspicious until later, when the LAX employee heard from a coworker that none of the pilots were on board the plane yet.

“We don’t know who he was. We’re looking to see. He could be an employee that was mistaken,” Pedregon said.

Out of an abundance of caution, the plane was towed to a remote part of the airfield, where airport police and the LAPD bomb squad swept it for any suspicious items. The flight’s luggage was also rescreened.

The aircraft was cleared about 10:15 a.m., LAX officials said. The flight was originally scheduled to take off at 6:30 a.m., airport officials said.

Might have been a pilot who brought the A/C inbound and returned to retrieve a left behind backpack?

Many years ago, a reporter dressed up in some kind of pilot uniform and was able to get on the ramp at ORD. His story, with pictures, caused a major flap and embarrassed airport officials. They took revenge by individually searching flight crews and their luggage for a long time afterward.

Maybe a jumpseater? Maybe a pilot who mistakenly went to the wrong plane? Maybe a new reserve who was looking for the captain? Maybe an old captain looking for his car? The list is limitless!

All while the locals breeze by a checkpoint that merely looks at their badge as they drive in. No further checks as they clean your aircraft or load it with bags.

I fly home a lot from 135 trips in uniform with a positive space ticket. No IDs/badges visible and TSA just lets me mosey on through like I own the place. I've been offered jump seats as well.

It's all a charade...

It's probably a TSA agent using their TSA credentials to run around the airport in a pilot uniform to show something about lack of security.

Story has been updated. It was an "off duty jetBlue pilot" jumpseating and the person he spoke with didn't know he was riding.

The way I read it, apparently when the flight was delayed (because of him) he went over to Virgin America and rode them to JFK and that's why he couldn't be found.
