I agree! Last week I overheard an ATC bet a pilot his last paycheck on some question or something. I can’t remember the context but it was funny and he was cool about it, not bitter.

They’ve been awesome during a very stressful time in their lives. Thank you ATC men and women!

Better late to the game than not playing at all.

Thanks to the CRJ crew that went to all ends to get my hapless jumpseating self back home a few months back. Took ballast and went to the penalty box to burn tanker fuel just to get the CG right so I could ride along. Weather was closing in and I probably wouldn't have made it home any other way. The cost analysis folks might not like that crew but I loved 'em.

Gentleman LCA

As a half winger I got bumped off the jump seat by a last minute guy after all 3 of us pilots were buckled in. I hustled up to the gate counter and wrote a pass (required back then). Waiting back at the bottom of the bridge, the LCA (giving the Captain IOE) asked me how much the pass cost. When I told him I didn't know he apologized for what happened, pulled out his wallet and handed me cash right there.

The AA pilot who offered to give me his seat while trying to get home to PHX from JFK yesterday. The flight was weight restricted and couldn’t take anyone in the JS even though the captain tried to make it work out. I couldn’t in good conscience take the seat just to get home only 2hrs early vs. me just catching the next flight.

Pooch817 had posted this in another thread. I am taking the liberty of cross posting it here. . .see what a conversation of a few minutes can do for a young man or woman. . .

Back in the 70s I had a Pitts so I was used to people wanting to know about it. One evening I was refueling and this kid that had odd jobs at the field wanted to talk to me about flying. So I stopped and sat down with him and we talked. 20 years later on the 10 he introduced himself and said you don't remember me but you are the reason I became a pilot. He was the kid I had stopped to talk to. We flew together and hunted together he is like a son to me. He came to the airline quite young, plenty experienced as he had been a corporate pilot on a jet. He should retire now in about 7 years. He just got off the MD80 because the Company is retiring them and is now flying the 767 which should be retired in two years. Still flying domestic. At his point in my career I was flying 10 international. Given he started younger then I did I would expect him to be more senior. Apparently the mergers are killing seniority and I can't help but wonder if the union reps are playing at being company management and not representing their pilots.

Seriously, dude?

Every merger in the last 15 years has been decided by arbitrators, not unions. Believe me, I know, I’ve been through two of them in that time span.

I expect you were TWA. Those guys got effed by the APA (Union), ALPA (Union) and never made that back up in after their staple(ish) job. TWA pilots and Air Tran pilots were not subject to arbitration and they paid the price. Everyone else that has been involved in a merger has gone through arbitration, and while someone always gets butthurt in an integration, the underlying reasons for the final decision are explained and have a basis in logic.

Unions make the best argument they can, but it’s precedent and merger policy that sets the awards.

Mike, you focused on the not cool part of the post.

I would have edited it, but it was someone else’s post.

Reread the portion of the young man being inspired to become a flyer. That was the whole intent of the cross post.

Having been with TWA or any airline had nothing to do with the intent of the crosspost.

Nice!

Won’t be long before he flies an Airbus and can’t descend without using speed brakes every single leg....
