Cool of the day goes to the jetBlue crew who had a bird strike after departing IAD to JFK last night, and returned safely to IAD. I commuted on that plane with that crew on their leg down to IAD. Kudos to them for their skills and professionalism.

According to unconfirmed reports, the bird involved made it back to his nest with a bent beak and one wing inoperative.
He has been nominated for Seagull of the Month.

I was standing outside the terminal after a deadhead waiting for the hotel van to pick me up, not in uniform, my hat sitting on top of my roll-aboard, watching an approaching storm. The DH was due to a broken trip and I arrived solo at a time not normal for the hotel to pick us up. Apparently crew skeds hadn't arranged a ride. I had already called the hotel and was waiting for the van. Out came one of our flight attendants who had non-revved into town to visit her mom in a nursing home. She approached me and asked if I needed a ride. Maybe the sombrero was a tip-off. She said she knew the hotel sometimes took a long time to get us and she had a rental car and was wiling to give me a ride. I thanked her profously but declined; by this time the van would have been close and I didn't want to leave before they showed up. So, here's to a random FA (who didn't know me from Adam) who confirmed my faith in (most of) the people with whom I work. I only wish I had gotten her name to thank her personally through her supervisor.

That is so cool. Brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face.

The log book is a nice touch.

Deadstick, thank you very much for posting that. It was a much needed ray of sunshine for me to brighten my increasingly dim view of America today.

Definitely made me smile and think of my own kids. Sadly I don’t think any of them can have a professional career as a pilot. The industry will have to maintain the two pilot status quo for 55 more years for the girl in the video to have a full career. If we go single pilot or pilotless she’s furloughed permanently. I hope it doesn’t happen because I hope my own young kids could have a future doing this but I think today’s new hires are the last generation to make it to retirement
