Once you get to a major you should have enough experience in life not to do these things.

Maybe the majors, through their hiring process, unknowingly prefer people that are more likely to engage in this type of behavior?

Ha lol your so right. I continuously see good guys that have been at the regionals for years and just assuming they have decent records because I know they have the time can't even get a phone call.
I'm just going out on a limb here but it can't be these two jerk offs first rhodeo.

Once the FA walked away and we sat in line for a few more minutes, they both disregarded the rules and turned them off Airplane Mode and went right back to texting.

I, for one, enjoy being "off the grid" for couple of hours commuting to and from work.

"On their phones" is sort of general. My phone has hundreds of saved articles, books, audiobooks, podcasts, textbooks for classes I'm taking, games, Duolingo, Flica, and on and on. Why don't people complain when others are constantly "on their book"? Should one sit idly instead of doing something constructive? Sure, a lot of people are probably just wasting time, but not always.

Older folks always complain about phones and headphones. A captain said something to me about my phone/headphones once (which I always take off before approaching the gate). I was listening to a Great Courses lecture - the kind of thing that saves me from the monotony of flying an airplane around while listening to sh*tty jokes about strippers and minorities all day.

I say let them keep texting or talking on their phones. Anything that diverts their attention away from playing music and farting on 121.5 is alright by me. ;)

They were texting and e-mailing. Trust me, they were VERY important people! There was a lot of "reaching out" and "touching base" and "following up" going on.

Cringeworthy terms, but the corporate crowd uses them without a second thought. I think I'd have a hard time seeming "friendly" in emails if I were ever to quit flying.
