AirTran question

Several months ago airlinepilotcentral stated that there was a 401K match at Airtran, it even posted the amount (can’t remember how much). Well, I emailed the owner of airlinepilot central about what I perceived as an error and the information was corrected.

Now, I see the 401K matching info is added again, so I wonder, is that a recent change a AirTran? Is there a 401K match there now?

I have numerous friends at AT and all of them tell me there’s no match, however since the information keeps being changed here I assume someone either keeps sending erroneous information to the owner of the his website, OR there really has been a change and there’s a 401K match nowadays. Either way, Airtran is a great company; I just want to make sure information posted here is correct.

So back to the question - is there a 401K match or not?

AV8:

Hey man, it could be possibile that you are thinking of a "B" fund which AirTran does have.. As far as I know, there is no 401 match.. Not sure about today, but it used a 10.9% B fund, and you could add to that.. Still a pretty good deal when you consider it's a medium size low-cost..

Hope that helps...

Thanks for your reply but I’m sure I was looking at the 401K match and not the B fund (which is 10.5% btw).

About 6 months ago when I clicked on Airtran on APC the bottom of the page listed:
401K – Yes”; “401K matching – Yes (6.3%)” (do not remember the exact number but it was somewhere around 4-6 %)

I emailed APC asking about that and a day or so later it was changed to say “401K Matching – none.”

Some 3 weeks ago, I was checking out the website again and this time it said: "401K – Yes"; "401K Matching – Yes" (this time no percentage was mentioned just the word Yes)

Anyway, the day I posted the question it was changed to "401K Matching NONE" (in CAPS - I guess they wanted to make a point huh ;))

Either way, no big deal, I just saw the note and was surprised to see it since to my knowledge they’ve never had 401K matching, so I thought that maybe they recently got the match? That’s why I asked. Either way, AirTran is a good company.

I can tell you for absolute certianty, AirTran pilots do not get a 401K match.

We do have a B-fund, as you mentioned 10.5%, which goes directly into our 401K account.

We had a 401K match 6 years ago, before our current contract.
