Tricare Reserve Select vs any DAL Med Plans
Smart people, I'm researching my 2016 open period options at Delta and I just don't see any reason not to stay on TRS. When I throw in the monthly insurance cost, deductible, cost sharing break points, HSA tax savings and my historical annual doctor visits, TRS still wins hands down. Anybody else out there reach similar determinations? Discuss....

Delta plans for vision & dental; TRICARE for everything else.
The ONLY people I've run into with a different conclusion (either TRICARE for everything including vision/dental, or Delta for anything beyond vision/dental) are those with special-needs kids--I don't know particulars, but I gather there are certain circumstances one can find oneself wherein "special needs" and/or "pre-existing conditions" can change the equation.... If this applies to you, take a VERY hard look; otherwise, I'd say it's a no-brainer....
PS: I retired active duty, so I'm no expert on TRS--but, assuming it works like TRICARE in this regard, your math needs to consider that TRICARE renders you ineligible to contribute to an HSA (greatly reducing the value of the company HDHP plans)....

TRS is the hands down winner for all medical and Px. I switched to Delta dental coverage 6 months ago after years with Tricare...Delta's dental is less expensive, and I also found some slight improvements in coverage. For instance, Delta's version will cover certain cosmetic fillings while TRS only does the old silver. Also, Tricare Dental has no ortho benefit for the sponsor or dependents over 25. Delta's coverage includes a $3000 benefit for all, even if you have already had braces. I found out because my teeth need a bit of straightening 30 years after the first set came off!!

2) Can you use it for everything your child needs?
3) Are you familiar with Katie Beckett? I am learning/starting the application.
Please PM me if you want to go private. All the therapy our daughter needs is starting to get expensive, even with TRS!
